This position will focus on two projects: The 1 in 4 Research-Movement Network's Coordinating Hub and the Global Education Evidence Advisory Panel early childhood report.
The first is a national network of research-advocacy partnerships to support children in immigrant families. NYU directs the Coordinating Hub for this network, under the leadership of Profs. Hirokazu Yoshikawa and Sophia Rodriguez and Dr. Ann Rivera (Senior Research Scientist and Project Director). In this role we collaborate with the Foundation for Child Development, other foundations and two national advocacy coalitions - the Children Thrive Action Network and Protecting Immigrant Families - to provide coordinated research input to the work of advocates, organizers and litigators.
The second is a report on the topic of early childhood developent (ECD) programs and policies with evidence of effectiveness and/or cost effectiveness that are implemented at large scale in low- and middle-income countries. It will be sponsored by the Global Education Evidence Advisory Panel (GEEAP), a global panel of experts (including Prof. Yoshikawa) that regularly synthesizes the research base on effective interventions in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) to support learning outcomes in children and youth. As part of its work, the Panel issues periodic special topic reports, including previously the impact of COVID on learning outcomes in LMICs and the evidence base on approaches to effective reading instruction in LMICs. The current project is to focus on ECD programs and policies implemented at national scale. The report will include a summary of cost-effective interventions that have been implemented at scale, as well as case studies of several effective models from a variety of regions around the world.
