Schedule: This role is a 10-month position, and is in the Professional Employees’ Federation (PEF), the union for faculty members at Bank Street College. The hours for this position are 8:00 AM–4:00 PM and will require staying until 5:00 once a week for section meetings.

About the Position
The Bank Street School for Children is seeking a passionate, knowledgeable, and team-oriented Spanish and French Teacher. This role will primarily work with students in grades 3 and 8 but may teach or have responsibilities with other grade levels as the needs of the school change. This role will also teach some after school classes that focus on Spanish or other specialties of the candidate. The ideal candidate will be team oriented, collaborative, and able to work with a broad range of community members.
Work with Children & Parents
Teach the French and Spanish curriculum that is responsive to children’s developmental capacities and needs. Generate enthusiasm for the subject being taught and inspire all students to work to their potential
Document lesson plans and develop a comprehensive curriculum with guidance from supervisor and in collaboration with other members of the humanities team
Collaborate with classroom teachers and other specialists to support curriculum and children’s development
Organize and maintain a positive classroom community that reflects curricular work
Differentiate instruction to support group and individual learning
Liaise with the Upper School Division Head and Lower School Division Head, Learning Specialists, School Mental Health & Wellness Counselors and World Language Team leader around curriculum, social-emotional needs, and academic needs
Communicate with families about student progress as needed via email, phone call, or in-person meetings
Promote high standards of behavior by encouraging a positive, proactive approach to studying and build productive relationships with students
Assign homework which is appropriate in terms of volume and learning goals
Assess student’s work accurately and regularly, giving thoughtful and meaningful feedback.
Share progress and concerns with families through conferences, written reports, and regular parent communication
Teach classes after school as assigned, within an equitable workload. After school classes may include students outside of the age range of school day classes.
Document lesson plans and curriculum for after school classes.
Provide extra help to students as necessary and as assigned, within an equitable workload. Extra help may occur outside of typical instructional periods such as during work periods or after school.
Other Responsibilities
Attending regular faculty, division, department, and supervisory meetings
Support school coverage needs by substituting for teachers within the world language department and across the school
Fulfill weekly communities duties as assigned which may include but are not limited to lunch, recess, early morning care, and bus
Support with some event or trip planning duties as assigned. Examples have included planning trips, coordinating events, and supporting weekly assemblies.
Additional duties assigned as specified by supervisor
Bachelor's degree in Spanish or French or equivalent education; Master's degree in education preferable
Fluency in French and Spanish
Knowledge of child development, progressive education, and constructivist teaching
Experience teaching World Languages
Demonstrated personal and professional commitment to diversity, social justice, and equity
Strong written and oral communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
Skilled in designing instruction that is data-driven, differentiated, and actively engaging
Experience in developing hands-on, developmentally appropriate Spanish and French curricula
Initiative, creativity, flexibility, and collaboration
