Position Purpose: Learning Support Teachers provide academic support to students in grades 5-12 who have learning challenges that impact their learning. Reading Interventionists provide remedial support in English language arts for struggling readers.
Learning Support Essential Functions:
Provide individualized academic support in conjunction with classroom curriculum
With support from the student support leads, develop a support plan based on information from the student's psychoeducational profile incorporating appropriate strategies, techniques and accommodations
Develop student’s study, organizational, and test taking skills through ongoing reinforcement of techniques
Develop and implement executive functioning strategies and support and maintain data regarding executive functioning skills
Maintain close communication with teachers, parents, and outside professionals to create a team approach to support student
Work with student and parents to demystify students regarding their learning strengths and weaknesses
Help students develop self-advocacy skills
Support school community, students and parents in navigating the learning process for students with learning challenges
Develop and implement social emotional learning strategies, conflict resolution, and anxiety management in conjunction with the WEB (Wellness, Equity, Belonging) team and counselors
Reading Interventionist Essential Functions:
Assess middle school students reading comprehension, fluency, phonics, vocabulary
Keep running records of student progress
Plan evidence based reading strategies to support struggling readers
Meet with students 1-1 or in small groups to provide intensive and individualized reading interventions
General Responsibilities:
Support and further the school’s mission, vision, and values
Actively engage in the life of the school and participate in related teaching duties, as needed
Ensure the safety and well-being of students
Teach up to 2 blocks, as assigned by the Head of School
Other Considerations:
Annual Salary Range: $63,169 - $85,269
Start Date: August 1, 2026
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in education or related subject
3 years + experience working with students with varying learning profiles
Ability to provide academic support using a variety of strategies or approaches to meet the needs of the student
Understanding of the intellectual, social, and emotional development of student learners
Ability to develop strong and trusting relationships with students while maintaining professional boundaries
Strong communication and collaboration skills
Growth mindset
Preferred Qualifications:
Credential or Masters Degree in Special Education or a related field (such as Literacy, Educational Therapy, or ABA)
Advanced degree or certifications relating to child development and learning styles
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Willingness and ability to work in a highly-demanding environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts
Ability to travel safely and comfortably across a campus
May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time
Be able to occasionally lift up to 30 lbs
Work primarily in a traditional, climate-controlled classroom environment and work intermittently in outside weather conditions consistent with San Pedro weather
