Learning Specialist Position
Rectory School has an opening for a full-time Learning Specialist in our middle school (grades 5-9). Applicants must possess a strong knowledge base in the area of learning differences and have developed strategies to support students with ADHD and Executive Functioning needs. In addition to teaching and coaching responsibilities, the successful candidate would also serve as a student advisor. A desire to work with middle school students is essential. Experience with student-centered teaching and having experience working with students with specific learning differences is preferred. Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide one-on-one and small-group support/instruction for students (5-9)
- Apply a deep knowledge of content, pedagogy, child development, individual students, community, and cultural norms to his/her teaching
- Knowledge in creating accommodation and student learning plans that result in maximum student growth; support classroom teachers with implementing interventions and accommodations.
- Effectively communicates expectations for learning and behavior with students in a caring, supportive manner.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in special education or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
- Ability to collaborate with faculty, staff, admin, and parents.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, verbally and in writing.
- Positive attitude, flexible approach, and a sense of humor

Rectory School was founded in 1920 when the Reverend and Mrs. Frank H. Bigelow sought to create an individualized learning program for their son John. The benchmark program has developed into a distinct advantage of a Rectory education. Rectory has the capacity to meet the educational needs and aspirations of a wide range of students – from strong traditional learners to those who have inquisitive minds but need more academic support.
The Rectory School’s 138-acre rural campus provides a scenic and secure home to approximately 270 students, covering the ages from K to 9th grade. Rectory is a coeducational institution at all levels. The 5th – 9th grade junior school has approximately 220 students, 145 of whom are boarding students. These students come to Rectory from all around the United States and from nine different countries. The average class size is 12, and the student-teacher ratio is 4:1.
