UMD Children's Place is seeking an Assistant Child Care Teacher.
Applications from current AFSCME Clerical employees must be submitted by no later than October 11, 2021 in order to be eligible for priority consideration. Job open date: October 4, 2021. To ensure full consideration, completed should be submitted by October 17, 2021. Position will remain open until filled. This is a 100 percent, 12-month continuous appointment.
1.) Assist teacher in implementation of program plan to advance the physical, social, emotional, and intellectual competence of the children. (80%) This includes: a. Providing environment of acceptance in which children can grow toward a sense of positive identity. b. Accurately observing, recording, and reporting individual and group behaviors. c. Planning and carrying out daily activities for a group of children. d. Preparation of educational materials required to implement the daily program. e. Provide sanitary and social meal/snack times. 2.) Participates in establishing and maintaining an attractive, safe, healthy learning environment. Works with Head Teacher to ensure the care and education program meets or exceeds state licensing standards. (15%) 3.) Direct part-time student staff and substitute staff in the care of children and provision of activities. (2%) 4.) Stays knowledgeable of and completes all yearly in-service hours (currently 24 hours) as mandated by MDHS State Licensing. (3%) 5.) Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications: • A combination of education, work/intern experience that meets State of MN Human Services Licensing Act. • A background clearance as required by the State of Minnesota. • Commitment to working with diverse populations and fostering social justice, culturally responsive, and antiracist pedagogies.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: â— A BA/BS degree in any field from an accredited college or university (9 credits must be in education), OR a Certificate / Credential for 2 year program in child development OR early childhood education at a MN community college or technical college, OR License from the MN Department of Education for Prekindergarten Associate. â— Experience working with children and families from diverse backgrounds. â— One year or more of formal experience working with children (b-age 5) in a full-day childcare program.
PHYSICAL REQUIRMENTS: â— Able to physically supervise young children & immediately respond to emergency situations; able to visually observe children in their environment, protecting them & preventing harm to them. Ability to communicate with young children & their parents â— Agile enough to move quickly, bend frequently, get up and down from the floor and small chairs frequently, carry and lift children weighing between 15-50 # (depending on age group), willing to sit on floor with children & to take children on walks, pushing 4-6 seat strollers. â— Must not present a risk of transmission of reportable communicable diseases as verified by a professional health care provider. Ability to model positive problem solving and respectful behavior.
