Position Overview

Powhatan School seeks a supportive, engaged, and enthusiastic elementary classroom teacher to join its Lower School for the 2026-2027 school year. The ideal candidate is a collaborative, child-centered educator who values strong relationships, reflective practice, and a joyful, inclusive classroom community. Powhatan supports the whole child and uses Responsive Classroom strategies to promote positive student behavior and success.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver developmentally appropriate curriculum using best teaching practices
• Collaborate with grade-level colleagues, specialists, and families to support student learning
• Maintain a positive, student-centered classroom environment
• Use varied assessment methods to inform instruction and document student progress
• Communicate regularly with families and write report card comments
• Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school events
• Serve assigned supervisory duties and manage approved instructional materials
  

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in child development or an education-related field required; Master’s degree preferred
• Elementary teaching experience
• Strong understanding of child development, differentiation, and assessment
• Commitment to Responsive Classroom practices and collaborative teaching
• Interest in nature-based or experiential learning
