The Speyer Legacy School seeks a dynamic, innovative, and passionate full-time Physical Education teacher for Kindergarten through Grade Eight. The candidate hired will join another P.E. teacher and P.E. Associate teacher, and will report to the Head of Lower School and Head of Middle School. They will be responsible for collaborating with faculty and staff to teach in support of the school’s mission and curricular goals. The ideal candidate possesses creative problem-solving skills, flexibility, enthusiasm for designing engaging physical education curricula, a positive attitude, passion for working with Lower and Middle School students, and strong communication and interpersonal skills that allow them to cooperate and collaborate effectively with others.
Duties & Responsibilities
Plan and implement motivating lessons in P.E. for Kindergarten to Eighth Grade with a wide range of activities
Demonstrate and model a variety of sport, movement, and fitness skills used in P.E. classes and with athletic teams
Collaborate with a co-teacher in Lower School P.E. classes to plan and implement lessons, provide parent feedback, supervise students, and meet student needs
As possible, coach two seasons of Middle School sports (soccer, volleyball, basketball, cross-country, and track) to be decided in conjunction the Athletic Director and Middle School Head
Implement rules for behavior and classroom procedures and routines
Evaluate students' performance, including academic, behavioral, and social-emotional
Prepare student Report Cards which include narrative descriptions of students' achievements and needs, as well as criteria checklists, and letter grades in Middle School
Communicate regularly with families about classroom happenings and student progress, including posting units and feedback on Schoology (online learning platform) for Middle School
Demonstrate a passion for lifelong learning and actively pursue professional development rooted in individual and schoolwide goals
Update curriculum and materials as needed, including on Schoology for Middle School
Participate in the school community, including faculty meetings and PD, committee work, and school duties, which may include running an Advisory group in the Middle School
Promote respect for diversity, equity, and inclusion as a core value of the School, a shared responsibility in partnership with the school community
Engage respectfully with families and demonstrate sensitivity to cultures, values, configurations, and beliefs
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Knowledge of child development, best practices, and current trends in physical education
Demonstrated classroom management skills, including the use of time, space, and materials for most effective learning
Experience in differentiated instruction
Creativity and innovation in both curriculum and instruction
Outstanding interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
Skill in creating a learning environment that is challenging, motivating, and age-appropriate
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, or equivalent
Masters Degree and experience in gifted education preferred
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States
Salary
The salary range for this position is $75,000 - $110,000; a final determination will be based on years of teaching experience and level of education.
Hours
Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday: 7:45 AM - 3:45 PM
Tuesday: 7:45 AM - 4:45 PM (for faculty meetings)
Occasional attendance at evening events such as Curriculum Night, Admissions Open Door Event, and Graduation.
Some preparation and planning may be required outside of regular school hours.
