Position Overview
The individual leads and coordinates the school’s efforts to ensure that all students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally and ensures high-quality, research-based learning support across divisions. This individual works with the Student Support Team, Division Heads, faculty, staff, and families, and provides direct support and counseling to students.
The individual helps to develop and implement systems, policies, and practices to meet a wide range of student needs—including neurodiversity, learning differences, social-emotional challenges, and other issues that arise. The individual is both a strategic coordinator and a hands-on practitioner, building a school culture of inclusion, equity, and holistic well-being. While the position will support the whole school, preschool through Grade 8, focus will primarily be on supporting students in Kindergarten through Grade 8.
Role and Responsibilities
Collaboration & Strategy
Develop and implement a comprehensive vision for student support services aligned with the school’s mission and values.
Coordinate direct support and interventions in-school and externally in collaboration with faculty, families, and caregivers
Partner with the Pedagogical Leadership Team to integrate student support practices into curriculum and pedagogy.
Collaborate with Pedagogical Leadership Team to determine what student needs can and cannot be met by the school's existing resources.
Stay current on best practices and research related to child development, learning support, neurodiversity, and social-emotional learning.
Establish systems for monitoring, documenting and evaluating the effectiveness of support services and interventions.
Student & Teacher Support
Oversee and coordinate academic and social-emotional support for students with identified or emerging needs.
Provide direct support to students through short-term intervention, counseling, or skills coaching, as appropriate.
Collaborate with teachers to design and implement classroom strategies that support diverse learners; design tier one supports and student support plans for targeted interventions/supports
Review psychoeducational and neuropsychological evaluations; translate findings into practical strategies for teachers and families.
Facilitate student support meetings and case conferences.
Oversee individual learning profiles and case management.
Develop and lead internal professional development for faculty around best practices for creating inclusive classrooms that support student learning.
Work with teachers on classroom management strategies and proactive approaches to behavior and wellness.
Support Admissions and Pedagogical teams during evaluations and observations i..e, Kindergarten playdates and other events as appropriate.
Family Partnership
Serve as the primary point of contact for families regarding external support services and work to ensure a strong school-home partnership starting with initial stages of intervention and tracking appropriately over time.
Educate and empower parents/guardians around child development, learning differences, and support strategies.
Compliance & Coordination
Maintain accurate records of support plans, interventions, and accommodations.
Coordinate with external specialists, therapists, evaluators, and other providers as needed.
Ensure appropriate documentation and compliance with applicable laws and ethical guidelines related to student support.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in school counseling, social work, psychology, counseling, or a related field preferred
Experience with social-emotional teaching/counseling young children
Demonstrated commitment to teaching and learning in a progressive, dynamic, 21st century school community
Ability to work in a collegial and highly collaborative environment
A growth mindset, active sense of humor, warm personality, and excellent organizational and communication skills
