The Speyer Legacy School seeks a dynamic, innovative, and passionate full-time Lower School co-teacher (K-4). The candidate hired will report to the Head of Lower School and will be responsible for collaborating with faculty and staff to create a learning environment in support of the school’s mission and curricular goals. The ideal candidate embraces flexibility and possesses creative problem-solving skills, enthusiasm for designing innovative curriculum, and strong interpersonal skills that allow one to cooperate and collaborate effectively with others.
Duties & Responsibilities
In collaboration with a co-teacher:
Design, document, and implement academically rigorous, interdisciplinary, inquiry-based units and lessons within a scope and sequence which reflect instructional strategies for gifted learners and an understanding of the gifted whole child (students’ interests and abilities, social and emotional needs).
Establish and sustain classroom procedures and routines that foster psychological safety, belonging, student voice, and a strong sense of community.
Enhance students’ social skills by integrating social-emotional learning into daily classroom practice.
Assess and utilize information on students’ academic, and social-emotional profiles to create responsive learning environments.
Collaborate with the Student Support Team to implement learning plans that meet the diverse needs of all students.
Collaborate with colleagues, across and within disciplines and divisions, to further develop curriculum and design interdisciplinary projects/units of study and to support students.
Communicate regularly with families about classroom happenings and student progress, including newsletters, conferences, and narrative reports that describe students' profiles, interests, areas of growth, and needs.
Regularly demonstrate a passion for lifelong learning for both students and colleagues.
Actively pursue professional growth rooted in individual and schoolwide goals by demonstrating an openness to feedback and reflection.
Participate in the school community, including faculty and committee work, and school duties.
Promote respect for diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging as core values of the School, a shared responsibility in partnership with the school community.
Engage respectfully with students and families and demonstrate sensitivity to cultures, values, configurations, and beliefs.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Deep content knowledge across core subject areas, with a strong knowledge of child development, differentiation, best practices, and current trends in Gifted Education.
Creativity and innovation in both curriculum and instruction.
Experience in inquiry-based education and the readers and writers workshop model.
Commitment to a concept-based, problem-solving, and hands-on approach to math instruction that emphasizes reasoning, mathematical discourse, and multiple solution pathways.
Demonstrated classroom management skills, including allocating time, space, and materials for most effective learning.
Skill in creating a learning environment that is challenging, motivating, and developmentally appropriate.
Versatility and flexibility both within and outside of the classroom, encouraging students and colleagues to think creatively, work collaboratively, embrace failure with a growth mindset, and communicate effectively with others.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ease in effectively prioritizing multiple competing tasks and demands.
Outstanding interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
Commitment to active, responsive collaboration with a co-teacher and team of teachers, including shared planning, open communication and reflection, and collective problem-solving.
Preferred Qualifications
Minimum of three years of head teaching experience.
Bachelor’s degree in education or related field required; master’s degree and experience in gifted education preferred.
Salary
The salary range for this position is $77,250 - $122,000; a final determination will be based on years of teaching experience.
Hours
7:45-3:45 Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, & Friday
7:45-4:45 Tuesday for faculty meetings
Attendance at evening events such as Curriculum Night, Admissions Open Door Event, and Graduation.
As this is a professional position, some preparations will need to take place outside of regular school hours.
