The UW Autism Center (UWAC) currently has an outstanding opportunity for a Temporary, Part-Time, Hourly Behavior Technician. This individual will work amongst a team of professionals, including licensed psychologists, speech-language pathologists, board certified behavior analysts, medical professionals, faculty, graduate students, and pre- and post-doctoral fellows.  This position will provide clinical services to individuals with autism spectrum disorders, providing/Implementing direct interventions to children with ASD using principles of applied behavior analysis.

The position will support the Autism Center-wide policies and procedures and workload standards. The position has additional complexities involving the ability to handle complex and sensitive situations regarding clinic patients.

General Job Duties/Description

-     To provide direct intervention to children with ASD in their homes as well as in clinic, community, and school settings.
-     To accurately record client intervention data and manage records.
-     To develop individualized materials used in therapy.

Specific Tasks Description.

PROVIDE INTERVENTION

-     Work 1:1 with children age 12 months through adulthood.
-     Implement intervention protocols developed by BCBA to increase skills/reduce problem behaviors.
-     Provide responsible, positive, sensitive intervention and care during therapy.
-     Apply ABA principles in therapy; tailor procedures to fit individual interests/needs.
-     Work under close supervision of masters level clinical staff.
-     Travel to children’s homes daily (within 30 miles of UW or your home).

DEVELOP MATERIALS

-     Create and produce picture cards, books, etc. as needed for the therapy program.
-     Create and produce motivation charts, token boards, PECS icons, visual schedules, play materials, etc.

ORGANIZING THERAPY SPACE

-     Maintain home and clinic therapy spaces in an organized, clean, and child-proof manner.

MANAGING RECORDS AND DATA COLLECTION

-     Organize and maintain computer and paper records of therapy including collecting and accurately recording data in each therapy session, graphing data and completing treatment notes.


Required Qualifications:

Two years of college-level course work in a relevant academic area AND two years of appropriate experience OR Equivalent education/experience.


Desired Qualifications:

-Bachelor’s degree in related field (psychology, education, human/child development).

-Excellent organizational skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, personal flexibility, the ability to interact with parents, children, and professionals, and experience working with toddler/preschool/elementary-aged children.

-Ability and willingness to interact with children in a spontaneous and creative way.

-This position involves physical care which may require moving children between the ages of 12-48 months.

-Training and experience in: early intensive behavioral intervention (ABA) for children with autism, early intervention for toddlers, developmental psychology, behavior analysis, special education, or related fields. 

-Experience working directly with children and families with Autism Spectrum Disorders. 

Please note that this position requires frequent traveling to multiple client homes daily, several times a week; the ability and flexibility to reliably travel to alternate work locations is critical. 

Access to vehicle for commuting to and from place of work to other sites; Licensure and certification, if appropriate to the field (e.g., LBA – Licensed Behavior Analyst, BCBA – Board Certified Behavior Analyst)

This position is subject to criminal background investigation, annual TB testing.

*Employees must have 40 hours of training according to the BACB Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) Task List.  Upon hire employees will be expected to pass a competency assessment and must be willing to complete Washington State requirements to work as a Certified Behavior Technician (CBT) through the WA State Department of Health. Employees must commit to work between 10 and 20 hours per week. Hours are subject to change based on client need or schedule.
Afternoon and evening availability (between 2 and 7PM).

Willingness to travel within 30-mile radius of home/UW.
