Job Summary: | The Assistant Director of Community Programs is responsible for the overall planning, implementation, and evaluation of a robust portfolio of programs for youth and adults: American Red Cross Courses, swim lessons, ice skating lessons, self-defense, and youth programs including a 9-week summer camp program service 160 campers per week.
The Assistant Director of Community Programs will serve as a key leader within the Programs Team reporting to the Associate Director of Programs. Responsibilities include holistic supervision of one full-time staff member and indirect supervision of 100 student employees. The role includes managing budgeting and purchasing for the community programs department with an entrepreneurial mindset. Additionally, the Assistant Director of Community Programs will lead program development, assessment, and compliance with campus, state, and Federal laws to create a safe and inclusive environment for all participants. |
Responsibilities: | Manages a department of recreation that encompasses multiple comprehensive recreation programs. Oversees and performs activities including policy development and enforcement, program development and expansion, participant eligibility, and/or risk management. May supervise staff. - 20% May exercise supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 FTE or equivalent employees
- 30% Provides leadership and direction regarding programmatic decisions, budgets, and logistics
- 15% Manages applicable software systems for program registration, sport management, and participation data
- 10% Develops and audits the unit budget
- 10% Prepares and analyzes statistical reports, evaluations, participation surveys, and program manuals
- 5% Facilitates the development of new programs and fosters relationships with existing student organizations
- 10% Ensures compliance for Rec Well summer camp with American Camp Association accreditation and state licensure requirements

Education: | Required Bachelor's Degree in outdoor education, recreation, coaching, juvenile justice, social work, psychology, child development, or education, or another camp-related field
Preferred Master's Degree in recreation, sports administration, higher education, or related field |
Qualifications: | Required: - A minimum of two (2) years of professional experience in a collegiate or community recreation or student organization setting is required. If applicable, graduate assistantships are equivalent to one year professional experience. - Supervision of full or part time employees. - Experience managing budgets and financial transactions. - Demonstrated understanding of youth protections. - Ability to work collaboratively with students, colleagues and campus partners. - Demonstrated understanding of policy development and risk management. - Per Wisconsin State Code for licensed day camp programs the applicant shall be at least 21 years of age and shall have at least one of the following: a. The Wisconsin Afterschool and Youth Development Credential. b. A bachelor's degree in outdoor education, recreation, coaching, juvenile justice, social work, psychology, child development, or education, or another camp-related field. c. Two or more years of supervisory or administrative experience in an organized camp or children's program.
Preferred: - Three (3) years of professional experience in a collegiate or community recreation or student organization setting is preferred. If applicable, graduate assistantships are equivalent to one year professional experience. |

Salary: | Minimum $62,000 ANNUAL (12 months) Depending on Qualifications The starting salary for the position is $62,000. Actual salary will be based on experience and qualifications.
