We are the only school in a 40+ mile radius that serves only students with language-based learning disabilities. Our classes are no larger than 8 students to ensure differentiated instruction, helping to reveal the potential of each student. Because the ultimate goal is for our students to successfully navigate life, we use assistive technology and work to strengthen their executive skills (such as self-advocacy and time management). Another unique part of our curriculum is the hands-on study of overlapping subjects. One example of this is our STEAM program which combines art with STEM topics; this allows creativity and innovation to flourish. Recognizing the whole student, a 20:1 student to counselor ratio provides crucial support and counseling to help rebuild confidence and heal, while clubs, spirit days, traditions, and other fun activities provide a well-rounded environment where our students can build meaningful bonds. For many students, Hillside is a transformative experience. When asked what faculty and staff love about working at Hillside, several say they enjoy having colleagues who care deeply about the school's mission.
