Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Mental Health Specialist II for the Child and Adolescent Services – South Brunswick School Based Program within Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care.
The primary purpose of the Mental Health Specialist II is to participate as a member of a multi-disciplinary treatment team offering comprehensive youth development activities, case management, and supportive counseling to students in the South Brunswick School District.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Takes initiative in engaging students and family members in a tactful manner.
Assists clients in effectively managing crises.
Responds with clinical flexibility to client's need.
In collaboration with school district personnel, identifies appropriate youth development activities for students and families.
Designs youth development workshops and other activities that enhance the emotional and social development of students in collaboration with school district personnel.
Assesses need for supportive concrete services for students and parents and facilitates referral for needed services on an ongoing basis.
Documents assessments, interventions, and interactions with parents and students in accordance with unit policies.
Makes home visits as indicated by record review.
Minimum Education and Experience:
A Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Education, Child Development or related field.
Equivalent education, experience and/or training may be substituted for the degree requirement.

PHYSICALDEMANDS: Time spent in a school environment. Some travel to student homes and community agencies. Moderate physical effort (lift/carry up to 25 pounds). Frequently walks, bends, stretches, pushes and pulls.
WORKENVIRONMENT: School setting is active and sometimes noisy. Varied settings in homes. Moderate noise (examples: business office with computers and printers, light traffic). Subject to unpredictable situations, patient crises, both medical and psychiatric. Occasionally exposed to patients exhibiting assaultive behaviors. Exposure to blood-borne pathogens that requires use of personal protective equipment. May be exposed to varying or extreme temperatures.
