Position Summary
Brookwood seeks an outstanding 5th grade teacher that has a deep knowledge of child development and best practices for teaching 10-11 year old students, exceptional written/verbal communication skills, and an infectious sense of fun. Dedicated to graduating students that are upstanding global citizens who embrace a culture of curiosity, kindness, and academic accomplishment, Brookwood actively pursues candidates with a strong focus on multiculturalism, equity, and inclusion. The ideal candidate will be experienced and well versed in current educational research in literacy development. In addition, successful candidates will have strong pedagogy in mathematics and social studies. The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable in current best practices and show evidence of the ability to build a positive classroom community and strong partnerships with families. The candidate will put students’ needs at the center of decision-making, will be a self-reflective educator who models a growth mindset, and will be an inspiration to and collaborator with a high-performing faculty.
Required Qualifications:
Master’s degree in related field
Two years of elementary-level lead classroom teacher experience
Commitment to culturally proficient teaching practices and social/emotional learning
Preferred Qualifications:
3+ years of or elementary-level lead classroom teacher experience
Teaching Licensure
Experience with curriculum such as:
Responsive Classroom
Illustrative Math
RULER
Learning for Justice Social Justice Standards
Specific Responsibilities:
Closely partner and collaborate with 5th grade co-teacher to plan and implement a curriculum that reflects developmental and academic benchmarks and fosters social-emotional growth, meeting all students’ unique journeys along the learning continuum.
Communicate regularly with faculty, administration, and parents about the academic, social, and emotional health of students.
Monitor learning through assessments and observations.
Write end of term comments for each student in the homeroom
Help students prepare for and facilitate student led conferences for parents in the spring
Engage in professional development to advance diversity, equity, inclusion, justice, and belonging goals at Brookwood.
Supervise recess, snack, and lunch times to support students’ ability to transfer social skills learned in the classroom to less structured venues.
