The role you’ll contribute:
The Child Life Network Educator is a professional in pediatric healthcare who works with children and families to help minimize stress/anxiety and maximize positive coping throughout the healthcare experience. The Child Life Network Educator serves as a resource and role model in developing and advancing atraumatic care standards of practice throughout the AdventHealth system. Primary focus of the Child Life Network Educator is providing education on the psychosocial development of children by promoting emotional support and developmentally appropriate information to enhance each pediatric patient and sibling’s understanding and coping with medical procedures, diagnosis, pain management and bereavement. Play and self-expressive activities are utilized as primary resources to minimize the stress and anxiety patients and families may encounter in a healthcare environment. The Child Life Network Educator serves as a resource in educating staff on atraumatic care and aids in pediatric program development to enhance the patient/family experience.
The value you’ll bring to the team:
Serves as a liaison for pediatric program leaders throughout the AdventHealth network with supporting atraumatic standards of practice via education and providing information and up to date best practice resources.
Teaches skills to enhance the multidisciplinary team in promoting emotional support and consistent approaches to atraumatic care techniques to assist with patient/family coping and to minimize stress relative to the healthcare experience. Practices stress reduction techniques to aid the multidisciplinary team in promoting positive coping techniques for patients and families during procedures throughout the healthcare experience.
Provides guidance and coaching for Child Life Specialists throughout AdventHealth system
Supports the multidisciplinary team in providing developmentally appropriate education for patients and their families by presenting age/developmentally appropriate information related to medical procedures, diagnosis, parent education, bereavement, etc.
Utilizes and promotes the use of play as a primary resource with patients/siblings to enhance coping, promotes opportunities for mastery/control and to build trusting relationships.
Assesses patient/siblings’ developmental levels, coping skills and diversional needs while establishing therapeutic relationships and serves as a role model for others
Qualifications
The expertise and experiences you'll need to succeed:
Bachelor’s degree in Child Life, Education, Recreation Therapy, Child Development, Psychology or related field
Two years of child life experience
Completion of Child Life internship under a certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS)
Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS)
