Position Description:
Wesley Prep seeks a dedicated, warm, and proactive Lower Elementary Classroom Support professional to serve alongside lead teachers in our Kindergarten, Primer, and First Grade classrooms. This full-time, non-lead teaching role focuses on providing learning support, behavioral guidance, and logistical assistance to ensure a nurturing, well-run classroom environment where young children feel safe, known, and supported.
Working under the direction of lead teachers, the Classroom Support professional reinforces classroom routines, supports individual and small groups of students, assists with daily transitions and activities, and helps maintain an organized, welcoming learning space. This role does not include independent lesson planning or primary instructional responsibility.

Essential Functions:
Support Wesley Prep’s mission of inspiring confident and joyful learners guided by curiosity, character, and purpose in daily classroom interactions.
Assist lead teachers in organizing and implementing daily lessons and activities.
Provide individualized and small-group support, including students requiring extra help or enrichment.
Supervise students during transitions, meals, recess, and other routines.
Reinforce positive behavior expectations and foster a positive, structured learning environment.
Prepare learning materials and set up activity stations.
Support social and emotional skill-building for students.
Assist with restroom breaks and personal needs as appropriate.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of classroom and shared spaces.
Document student observations and share relevant insights with lead teachers; communicate with parents as directed by the classroom teacher or administration.
Demonstrate discretion, professionalism, and respect for student and family confidentiality.
Qualifications and Skills:
Bachelors Degree preferred
Understanding of Early Childhood Development - Awareness of how to best support students ages 5-7.
Familiarity with early literacy and phonological awareness skills in order to reinforce classroom instruction: Support students with letter recognition, sound blending, and foundational reading skills.
Math Foundations: Support students as they practice number sense, counting strategies, and early problem-solving skills introduced by the teacher.
Creativity & Innovation: Support and help design engaging, hands-on learning experiences planned by the teaching team
Behavior Management: Guide behavior positively in both large and small groups, using age-appropriate strategies.
Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Build relationships with students, collaborate with teachers, and communicate with parents as needed.
Patience & Encouragement: Foster student confidence, independence, and emotional well-being.
Adaptability & Teamwork: Work flexibly with diverse classroom needs and collaborate with teaching teams.
Physical Stamina: Ability to sit, kneel, and actively participate in a dynamic classroom environment with young children.
