The Role
The Associate Teacher works in close collaboration with a Lead Teacher to support the growth and learning of children in a mixed-age classroom. Associate Teachers play an essential role in shaping classroom culture, nurturing each student’s voice, and ensuring that all children feel safe, seen, and supported.
Our teachers model a patient, open-minded, and courageous approach to working with children and adults alike. Together, we create environments that encourage collaboration, independent thinking, and joyful discovery.
Responsibilities
Partner with the Lead Teacher to design flexible, engaging learning experiences for individuals and groups.
Foster a classroom environment that is safe, inclusive, and emotionally supportive.
Support inquiry-based and project-based learning that connects children’s experiences to the larger world.
Build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues rooted in respect and care.
Communicate regularly with the Lead Teacher about classroom activities and student progress.
Contribute to narrative assessments and student–parent conferences that celebrate growth and set goals.
Participate in schoolwide events, including family meetings, community gatherings, and admissions events (occasionally outside regular hours).
Respond to school communications within 24 hours and maintain a spirit of collaboration.
Engage in professional growth, welcoming feedback and setting reflective goals.
Incorporate technology to support learning and documentation.
Supervise students during recess, field trips, and overnight trips as needed.
Assume the Lead Teacher’s responsibilities during absences.
Model and integrate anti-bias and inclusive practices in all aspects of classroom life.
Take part in staff meetings and shared responsibilities that strengthen our community.
Carry out additional projects or duties as assigned by the Head of School.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field
Passion for progressive education and child development
Prior experience working with children in a school or educational setting
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Organized, detail-oriented, and resourceful
Tactful, discreet, and able to work collaboratively
Comfortable with classroom technology and documentation tools
