Assistant Director/Lead Teacher, Child Development Center
To assist the Director in planning and implementing developmentally appropriate care for young children according to State Department of Education regulations and MSMU Child Development Center philosophy. To provide a model classroom environment, maintain a high-quality program based on developmentally appropriate practices, and mentor and supervise student teachers, teacher assistants and volunteers.

Position Hourly Rate: $33.60
Hiring salary can be above the posted pay range if candidate's qualifications are determined to be above the minimum requirements of the position description.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assumes responsibility for the Center in the Director's absence (e.g. interview parents for enrollment, certification and re-certification; act as liaison between Director and staff)
Plans and implements a developmentally suitable curriculum for two to five-year-old children, maintain records of the children's progress and communicate that progress to parents on an on-going basis. Provides appropriate guidance for children in order to facilitate a safe, challenging and comfortable learning environment.
Promotes open communication and trusting relationships with parents, while maintaining confidentiality and demonstrating a sensitivity to cultural differences and diversity.
Complies with community care licensing regulations, NAEYC Accreditation standards, the California Department of Education requirements including the 'Desired Results' system including developmental profiles for children, parent/teacher conferences, environmental assessments, and participation in center self-study
Engages in staff development opportunities to improve professional and personal skills (e.g., Early Childhood Education or Child Development courses, workshops, conferences and visits to other centers)
Attends staff and Board meetings, parent meetings and conferences
Work with the Director, Parent Advisory Council and staff to develop and implement a parent education and participation program
Supervise, train, and evaluate staff, student teachers, student employees and volunteers
Participates in the development and implementation of Center policies and procedures (e.g. opening/closing, emergency)
Compiles end-of-the-month reports for attendance and maintain Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) administrative responsibilities as assigned
Submits work orders involving building repairs

Job Requirements: Knowledge:
Strong working knowledge of developmentally appropriate curriculum
Working knowledge of word-processing and children's computer programs
Knowledge of Center policies and procedures
Abilities and Skills:
Effectively organize, prioritize and handle multiple tasks to meet established deadlines
Understanding of, and sensitivity to, the needs of children and adults in a multi-cultural childcare setting
Work and communicate effectively in a group setting with both adults and children as well as with adults, only
Dependable, self-motivated, team player
Exercise sound judgment and decision making
Bi-lingual English/Spanish
Strong organization and prioritization, customer service, oral/written communication and interpersonal skills
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Child Development or Early Childhood Education
Valid Child Development Site Supervisor Permit as well as first aid and infant CPR card
Fifteen (15) hours of health safety education
Experience:
Two (2) years of experience working with young children in a similar setting
