Pay Range: $3,000 per 3-credit course. Courses with low enrollment (less than 12 students) may be canceled. Compensation will be commensurate upon experience, qualifications, and teaching assignments. This position is Exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) overtime provisions.
Work Location: Determined by course modality: Hybrid.
*This position is open only to Colorado state residents or those that intend to reside in the state of Colorado while employed by UCCS.
Summary
The College of Education at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) will establish and maintain a pool of Lecturers in the Department of Teaching and Learning from which future appointments of temporary, non-tenure track positions will be made. Appointments are part-time (less than 50% time) and will be made semester-by-semester.
Qualified applicants will be placed in the department pool and will be considered for part-time departmental needs to teach courses for programs in the Department of Teaching and Learning. Classes primarily meet in-person, on-campus, but courses could also be offered hybrid or online.
Essential Functions
The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
- Teach no more than 9 credit hours per semester. Topics areas to be taught may include: Schools, Society, and Diversity; Children's Literature; Educational Psychology; Inclusive Education Foundations; Literacy, Social Studies, Science, and Mathematics Methods and Content Courses; Child Development; Family Diversity; Early Childhood Center Administration; Child-Centered Inclusive Instruction; Assessment; Universal Design for Learning; Classroom Management; Health and PE for Elem Teachers; Arts Integration for Elem Teachers; Collaboration and Co-Teaching; Gifted and Talented Education; Special Education; Multisensory Education; Language Acquisition; English Second Language for Educators; Field Experience and Practicum.
- Follow posted syllabus and Canvas content.
- Effectively use Canvas, an online learning management system.
- Create highly engaging learning experiences related to course outcomes.
- Gather and assess evidence of student learning in accordance with course expectations.
- Use effective distance and online learning methods.
- Respond to student learning needs in a timely manner.
- Implement culturally responsive practices.
A lecturer's duties include: meeting assigned classes or delivering on-line content consistent with university, college/school, and department policies; providing instruction in assigned classes consistent with the content and learning objectives of the regular course syllabus and, if appropriate, with department course coordination policies; being available, either face to face or electronically, to students in assigned classes to provide additional academic support as needed and appropriate for the teaching assignment; and complying with university-wide student evaluation of instruction policies and peer observation policies.
Tentative Search Timeline
This is an evergreen Lecturer Pool for the Department of Teaching and Learning at UCCS. Applications will be reviewed on a semester-by-semester basis as business needs arise.

- Potential Start Dates: Employment start dates will vary based on course scheduling needs and will align with the start of the relevant academic semester.
Because this appointment is temporary in nature, you will not be eligible to receive all of the benefits normally provided to faculty under the standard University of Colorado benefits programs. You are not eligible to receive paid vacation leave, medical, or retirement benefits. However, you are eligible to accrue sick leave at 0.034 hours of sick leave per hour worked.

Qualifications - Master's Degree in Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Special Education or closely related field is required.
- Professional experience in the specific course content area is required.
- Experience working directly with children in a classroom setting is required.
- The preferred candidate will have a terminal degree (e.g., PhD, JD, EdD).
- Current engagement in professional development activities in the specific course content area is highly desirable.
