The Wellington School is seeking a dynamic and collaborative Upper School Learning Specialist with strong content knowledge in mathematics, reading and writing, and social studies.
Key responsibilities and duties of the role
Implement an upper school learning support program that fosters academic growth and cognitive development
Teach executive functioning strategies to support student learning, including study skills, test-taking, time management, organizations, and planning
Teach one section of an Upper School academic course, with the subject determined by the candidate’s expertise and the school’s scheduling needs
Collaborate with colleagues (teachers, advisors, counselors, lower and middle school learning specialists, etc.) to coordinate student support and ensure appropriate-age accommodations and instructional strategies
Partner with families to provide guidance and resources related to early adolescence and related student learning needs
Meet with students individually and in small groups, balancing proactive and responsive support
Advocate on behalf of students’ general or specific developmental needs and for inclusive practices across the curriculum
Provide regular feedback (both written and verbal) to students and families
Maintain accurate records and meet all deadlines for student reports, family communications, and professional requirements
Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school-wide events.

Qualifications
An undergraduate degree in education, or a related field, including certification, and recent teaching and/or learning specialist experience is preferred.
Knowledge of special education, individualized education plans and services in an independent school, educational administration, and learning disability intervention
Understanding of child development and educational needs for students in grades 9-12
Understanding of best practices for student advocacy
Flexibility in response to the needs and requirements of adolescents
Strong organizational and communication skills
Ability to use PC technology and Microsoft Office to facilitate communication and record management
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
Ability to stand, walk, sit, and engage in classroom activities for extended periods.
Occasionally lift/move up to 25 pounds.
Work environment is generally a moderate noise level, typical of a school setting.
