Manhattan Country School seeks a 7th/8th grade math teacher with experience in teaching pre-algebra and algebra, differentiated instruction, and progressive math education. The leave replacement will go from the end of August to December and possibly extend into January (timing to be confirmed this spring). The math specialist will engage students through an inquiry-based curriculum that promotes conceptual understanding and number sense while emphasizing skill-building, efficiency, and accuracy. The Upper School math program is rooted in the Connected Math Program, complemented by additional resources to enhance student learning and integrate social justice math.

Duties and Responsibilities: The math teacher will: ? Teach pre-algebra to 7th graders and algebra to 8th graders using a progressive, inquiry-based approach. ? Offer regular math office hours before or after school to provide additional support to students. ? Assess student progress through evaluations and written reports, and maintain open communication with families. ? Serve as an advisor to a group of 7th and 8th grade students, assisting with organization, homework completion, and social-emotional needs while acting as the primary family contact. ? Accompany students on at least one week-long trip to the school's Catskills farm as part of the environmental education curriculum. ? Teach an elective class on a math topic
? Collaborate with the 7th and 8th grade teaching team to maintain a dynamic and engaging program, including participation in the annual activism project. ? Perform additional duties as assigned, including lunch, park, and independent study supervision, and other tasks as directed by the supervisor.
Requirements and Qualifications: ? Full-time teaching experience in middle school math or a related field. ? A degree in math or math education is required; Master’s degree preferred.. ? Strong understanding of child development and progressive education principles. ? Proven ability to create and implement innovative pedagogies that encourage inquiry and active learning in adolescents. ? Proficiency with a variety of teaching methods to accommodate diverse learning needs and styles. ? Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with a team of educators and the Upper School director/assistant director. ? Flexibility and adaptability to adjust to a changing weekly schedule that responds to curricular needs and opportunities. ? Experience integrating technology tools into the classroom, including Delta Math, Google applications, graphing calculators, and more. ? A proactive attitude with a sense of humor and strong listening and communication skills. ? High expectations for all students, fostering a culture of academic excellence and personal growth. ? Familiarity with the Bootstrap algebra curriculum is a plus.
