Nature and Scope of Job
The Director of Development (DOD) is responsible for the short and long-term strategic planning for Development, growing a culture of philanthropy and implementing a comprehensive fund-raising programme that enhances institutional support from The Wyndcroft School’s constituents and foundations. S/He oversees the areas of annual donor cycle events, planned giving, major gifts, capital projects, grants and alumni relations. With a keen awareness of the school’s public image, the DOD supervises institutional advancement processes that include record keeping, budget maintenance and events planning.

Essential Duties:
Works collaboratively and supportively with the HOS and the Advancement Committee (AC) of the Board of Trustees to develop strategic long and short-term fund-raising strategies.
Creates and manages a Development programme designed to generate maximum monetary support to the school through management of fund-raising campaigns including: annual and major giving, capital projects, endowments, planned giving, EITC, OSTC, gifts-in-kind and special events.
Educates the school’s constituents about Development and fundraising activities.
Keeps accurate Development statistics, managing the Development database which includes donations tracking.
Manages the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of a specific portfolio of major gift prospects, including individuals, foundations and corporations. Provides research, background information, appropriate materials and recommended strategies for dealing with specific constituents and donors. Writes grant applications and reports as needed.
Ensures that the school complies with all federal, state and local regulations related to fund-raising activities.
Is proficient in utilising NAIS’ DASL to assist the school’s making data-informed decisions.
Serves as a member of the Wyndcroft Leadership Team (WLT).
Minimum requirements:
Bachelor’s degree required. Advanced degree or equivalent experience preferred.
Experience in a not-for-profit and/or independent school environment highly preferred.
Three years of marketing or sales experience required, preferably in an independent school or college, including significant leadership responsibilities.
Three years Development experience, especially with major gifts and foundation/corporate grant writing.
Experience with donor management software and databases.
First Aid, AED and age-appropriate CPR certification.
