Classification Summary: Incumbents develop and implement activities and lesson plans, observe developmental progress, and ensure an appropriate environment for the children. Responsibilities may include directing children's activities, setting up and conducting parent conferences; communicating with parents about their child's/children's day on a daily basis; training, supervising and evaluating student teachers; and planning and implementing lessons according to the developmental level of the children.
Minimum Education and/or Training and Experience: An associate's degree in Early Childhood Education and one (1) to two (2) years of relevant work experience required. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
Preferred Education and/or Training and Experience:
Licensing Requirements: Missouri Department of Health Senior Services state child care license; Missouri Accreditation Standards and Procedures
Classification Duties: 1. Produce curriculum and implement appropriate activities to advance all areas of the children's development and learning. (B2) 2. Establish positive, supportive relationships with families. Involve and collaborate with families; maintain consistent, frequent communication through a variety of methods. (B2) 3. Acclimate special services providers to the classroom and enlist expertise as necessary regarding modifications of environment, activities, etc. Participate in individualized family service plans or individualized education programs as requested by family members or school district personnel. (B2) 4. Monitor indoor and outdoor space daily for health and safety concerns. Recognize and report signs of child abuse/neglect as specified in the Jefferson College Child Development Center staff handbook and as mandated by law. (B2) 5. Utilize a repertoire of positive guidance techniques, consistent with program philosophy, to support the child's ability to develop autonomy and to experience success in a group environment. (B2) 6. Establish a systematic plan for collecting assessment information (e.g. Portfolio assessment and written observations) used to drive developmentally appropriate, intentional teaching practices. (B2) 7. Provide leadership to volunteers, teaching assistants and adult students in the classroom. (B2) 8. Attend staff meetings, in-service training, workshops, and special activities as directed. (B2) 9. Perform other related duties of a comparable level/type as assigned
Position Duties:
Knowledge: Program coordination principles; Applicable Federal, State, and Local laws, rules, and regulations; Child development principles and practices; Early childhood education principles and practices; Cleaning and sanitation methods; Program development principles; Recordkeeping principles; Computers and related software applications.
Skills: Coordinating childcare programs; Monitoring children in a child care setting; Completing forms; Observing and recording developmental factors; Cleaning and sanitizing rooms, furniture, and toys; Mediating conflict between children; Applying first aid and administering medications; Maintaining records; Using a computer and related software applications; Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or covey information and to receive work direction.
