The Speyer Legacy School seeks a dynamic, innovative, and passionate full-time Middle School Science teacher beginning August 2024. The candidate hired will join two other Science teachers in the Middle School and will report to the Head of Middle School. They will be responsible for collaborating with faculty and staff to teach Middle School Science in support of the school’s mission and curricular goals. The ideal candidate possesses creative problem-solving skills, intellectual passion, enthusiasm for designing innovative curriculum, and strong interpersonal skills that allow one to cooperate and collaborate effectively with others.
This is most likely a half-time position for 2025-2026, and a three-quarter time position for 2026-2027.
Duties & Responsibilities
Plan and implement motivating lessons in Science for Middle School students which reflect knowledge of curriculum, students’ interests and abilities, students’ social and emotional needs, and gifted education.
Maintain rules for behavior and classroom procedures and routines.
Evaluate students' academic performance according to Speyer grading standards.
Maintain the course Schoology pages, our online learning center, including posting all assignments, materials, and feedback on student work.
Prepare student report cards which include narrative descriptions of students' achievements and needs, as well as letter grades.
Communicate regularly with families about classroom happenings and student progress.
Demonstrate a passion for lifelong learning on a daily basis for both students and colleagues.
Collaborate with colleagues, across and within disciplines and divisions, to further develop curriculum and design interdisciplinary projects/units of study.
Attend faculty meetings, fulfill lunch, morning and dismissal duties, serve as an advisor, chaperone trips, and meet other responsibilities typical of a Middle School teacher.
Promote respect for diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging as a core value of the School, a shared responsibility in partnership with the school community.
Engage respectfully with families and demonstrate sensitivity to cultures, values, configurations, and beliefs.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Knowledge of child development, best practices, and current trends in science education and gifted education.
Demonstrated classroom management skills, including allocating time, space, and materials for most effective learning.
Experience in differentiated instruction.
Creativity and innovation in both curriculum and instruction.
Versatility and flexibility both within and outside of the classroom, encouraging students to think creatively, work collaboratively, embrace failure, and communicate effectively with others.
Outstanding interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
Skill in creating a learning environment that is challenging, motivating, and developmentally appropriate.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Science and/or Education or a related field.
Master’s degree and/or experience in gifted education preferred.
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
Salary Range
The annual salary range for this full-time position is $75,000-110,000. The position on the scale will be based on years of experience and education. The salary will be calculated on the percentage of a full-time position.This is most likely a half-time (50%) position for 2025-2026, and a three-quarter (75%) time position for 2026-2027. Employees working 75% or more receive full benefits.
