The Middle School Technology Teacher is responsible for creating a supportive learning environment and instructional program that results in students meeting their potential and achieving academic success. This full-time teaching position is for a dedicated Technology educator to teach 6th-grade technology sections focusing on digital citizenship, foundational technology skills, and STEM exploration. Reporting to the Head of Middle School and in support of the Department Chair, the Middle School Technology Teacher promotes high levels of learning engagingly and effectively using various teaching methods and curriculum resources for students.
The Kinkaid School is a co-educational, nonsectarian day school enrolling over 1,400 students in pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade. The student body is divided into the Lower School (PreK - 8th Grade), the Middle School (5th grade - 8th grade), and the Upper School (9th grade - 12th grade). ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop and deliver the Technology 6 curriculum, including wellbeing in the context of digital citizenship and capstone activities covering:
How to communicate ideas in a variety of media
Computational thinking
Principles of design and engineering
Create and implement hands-on projects in The Nest maker space
Evaluate student progress and maintain accurate records
Collaborate with departmental and divisional leadership on STEM curriculum development
Serve as an advisor to 11-12 sixth-grade students
Attend and fully participate in the sixth-grade overnight and day trips
Communicate effectively, in written and oral formats, with parents regarding student progress
Participate in faculty meetings and school events
Assist with middle-school activities and supervisory duties, as assigned or impromptu
Bachelor's degree in Education, Science, Computer Science, or STEM-related field (Master's preferred)
Minimum 3 years of teaching experience
Strong understanding of middle school child development
Experience with educational technology platforms (Google Apps, Scratch, Tinkercad)
Working knowledge of maker space equipment and safety protocols
Candidate should be interested in leading an after-school robotics program for an additional stipend (preferred)
