The Position:
The College seeks a full-time, tenure track faculty member in the Education and Human Development Department. The ideal candidate will share the Colleges commitment to educating a culturally, linguistically, and socioeconomically diverse student population. The ideal candidate will also possess knowledge of diverse learning styles, birth through school-age in inclusive learning environments.
Start date of this assignment: Fall 2025.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties below are representative of the duties of the classification and are not intended to cover all of the duties performed by the incumbent(s) of any particular position. Teach courses in the Education and Human Development Department, including courses in early childhood, school-age, and those pertaining to special populations
Participate in curriculum development, evaluation, and revision, including the assessment of student learning outcomes
Remain current with technologies and research in the profession
Perform other duties as required by contract and general institutional needs in a timely manner
Serve as a member of department, division, college, and District committees
Collaborate with community partners on projects that support the Education and Human Development Department
Teach a variety of courses in different modalities and to different populations: in-person, synchronous or asynchronous online, dual enrollment, hybrid. Be willing to teach some evening or weekend courses
Collaborate with faculty and staff in other departments and colleges to enhance instruction, curriculum, and student success
Minimum Qualifications:
Possession of a Masters or above in child development, early childhood education, human development, home economics/family and consumer studies with a specialization in child development/early childhood education or educational psychology with a specialization in child development/early childhood education OR Bachelors in any of the above AND Masters or above in social work, educational supervision, elementary education, special education, psychology, bilingual/bicultural education, life management/home economics, family life studies or family and consumer studies OR the equivalent (see below)
Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to, and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, ethnic, neurodivergent, and LGBTQIA+ backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff as these factors relate to the need for equity minded-practice both within and outside of the classroom
Physical Requirements: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
The ability to participate in curriculum development, evaluation, and revision, including the assessment of student learning outcomes
The ability, initiative, and commitment to work collaboratively with faculty and staff in the spirit of collegiality and innovation to enhance instruction, curriculum, and student success
Experience with the effective use of technology in teaching, including online instruction
The ability to motivate students from a broad spectrum of academic, socioeconomic, ethnic, neurodivergent, and LGBTQIA+ backgrounds
Knowledge of community partners and needs, and the proven ability to connect and collaborate with the resources available in San Mateo County
Knowledge of the differences and ability to work with second language learners
Enthusiasm for, understanding of, and commitment to the teaching profession and the mission of the community college
The ability to use teaching methods that emphasize cooperation and collaboration and engage students actively in their studies, encouraging them to become critical thinkers and independent learners who demonstrate cultural sensitivity and understanding of interdisciplinary approaches
Experience within an early learning development program working directly with children 0-8 years old and their families
Experience working in the field of early care and education as a teacher or administrator
Preferred Qualifications:
Fluently bilingual and bi-literate in Spanish/English
Recent experience working with racially minoritized and other disproportionately impacted students in the classroom and an understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion of these groups within higher education and particular fields shape patterns of participation and outcomes
Willingness to examine and remediate ones instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support racially minoritized and other disproportionately impacted students
Skilled in addressing equity gaps in education
Commitment to best practices in teaching and learning (i.e., Universal Design in Learning; virtual learning and emerging technologies)
The ability to collaborate in proposal writing projects and grants

Annual Security Report:
