Summary
Riverstone International School is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Learning Support Program Lead to join our Secondary School team, working with students fromGrade 6 - 12. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of child development and special education, along with a commitment to Riverstone’s inquiry-based and student-centered approach to learning. This individual will collaborate closely with classroom teachers, parents, specialists, and outside providers to ensure that students with diverse learning needs are provided with the support, interventions, accommodations and extensions necessary for their academic and social-emotional growth.
Responsibilities
Provide targeted, evidence-based interventions for students with identified learning needs (e.g., reading, writing, mathematics, executive functioning, social-emotional skills).
Maintains individual student “Toolboxes” that provide targeted resources to teachers based on a student’s specific learning needs.
Collaborates with and coaches teachers to execute SSP plans.
Utilize a variety of instructional strategies and accommodations tailored to students’ unique learning styles and needs.
Collaborate with classroom teachers and specialists (e.g., school counselor,, external therapists, and learning support providers) to develop and monitor student-specific plans and interventions.
Serve as a resource and advocate for students, promoting inclusive practices within the classroom and school community.
Engage parents/guardians as partners in the educational process, ensuring consistent communication and collaboration on student progress and needs, including attending SSP meetings.
Conduct informal and formal assessments to identify students’ learning strengths and areas of need.
Track and document student growth and adjust interventions or supports as necessary.
Maintain accurate records of student progress, assessments, and related documentation in accordance with school policies.
Participate in Student Support Team meetings, bringing expertise and data-driven insights to guide decision-making.
Maintains and provides training on SSP toolbox resources for all staff
Observes classes and offers support and resources for students and teachers regarding prevention, intervention, and differentiation strategies.
Conducts staff development activities geared toward prevention, intervention, and differentiation initiatives.
Manages the “Tune-up” short-term intervention program in consultation with relevant teachers.
Provides parent education as appropriate to support the goals of Riverstone’s learning support program.
Attend professional development workshops, conferences, and in-service trainings to remain current with best practices in special education, early childhood education, and inclusive teaching.
Lead professional development workshops in learning support best practice for Riverstone Faculty and families.
Contribute to a positive school culture by actively engaging in faculty meetings, committees, and collaborative planning sessions
Maintain confidentiality and uphold professional ethics in every facet of the position.
Additional Duties
Assists Student Life Coordinator in assessing and monitoring student progress.
Assists Student Life Coordinator in maintaining necessary records and reports and inputting information into SSP forms.
Consults with Program Coordinators to support access for students with specific learning needs.
Qualifications & Requirements
Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in Special Education, School Counseling, or a related field.
Valid teaching certification or licensure in Special Education or equivalent preferred
Demonstrated experience working with elementary-aged students with diverse learning needs.
Familiarity with the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Program (MYP) or Diploma Program (DP) or other inquiry-based, holistic curricula is a plus.
Previous experience in an international or independent school setting is preferred.
Strong knowledge of effective intervention strategies, differentiation techniques, and current best practices in special education.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in maintaining student records and monitoring progress.
Essential Outdoor Education Duties and Responsibilities:
Carry up to 50 lbs.
Hike 5-10 miles per day over rough terrain.
Be comfortable performing in all weather conditions.
Able to spend up to 3-10 days in the outdoors within an academic year.
Ability to manage 10-15 students in a remote setting utilizing outdoor leadership skills.
Participate in yearly training opportunities.
