Congressional School seeks a Middle School Science Teacher beginning with the 2025-2026 school year. The Science Teacher is responsible for helping students acquire scientific literacy through guided discovery, problem-solving, cooperative learning, and appreciation of real-world relevance. The Science Teacher is knowledgeable about the cognitive and social-emotional development of middle school children and possesses a firm understanding of and ongoing passion for science. The Science Teacher will be positive, collaborative, and innovative in addition to the below duties and responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Further develops, implements, assesses, and modifies as necessary a dynamic science program for middle school grades that aligns with Congressional's mission, vision, and values.
Serves as middle school advisor.
Utilize a hands-on, inquiry-driven approach that maximizes student engagement
Displays a deep understanding of and a passion for science and its application to the real world.
Organizes classroom systems and procedures and manages student behavior to ensure all students are fully engaged and learning.
Assesses students' scientific knowledge for the purposes of refining classroom activities and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding students' progress, expectations and goals.
Employs multicultural, anti-bias teaching strategies that reflect cultural competence.
Maintains a high level of awareness regarding research and recent developments on programs that will benefit middle school students in science.
Ability to explore and execute technology in the classroom as an instructional tool to enhance learning.
Seeks collaboration with dynamic and active science department.
Provides feedback to students, parents and administration regarding students' progress, expectations and goals.
Actively seeks opportunities for professional development in science and middle school pedagogy.
Listens and responds to student and parent concerns in a responsible, constructive and resourceful manner.
Actively supports the school philosophy, community, and policies.
Performs other related duties as required and assigned by the Division Director
REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in science.
Master's degree in science, education, or related field preferred
Minimum two-three years of experience teaching middle school science
Demonstrated knowledge and experience in child development and educational practices.
Effective, timely, and professional written and verbal communication skills
Strong background in an inquiry approach to science education, including experimental design, curriculum design, interdisciplinary activities, and project-based learning
Demonstrated ability to work in a diverse and inclusive environment with a commitment to cultural competency.
Strong initiative and organizational skills
An ability to work in a joyful, collegial and collaborative environment
