Peoria Academy seeks a dedicated and passionate Physical Education Teacher and Athletic Director to join our team. This dual role combines teaching physical education to students in grades PreK-8th grade with leadership, management, and oversight of the school’s athletic program. The ideal candidate will inspire a love for physical activity, promote teamwork, and foster a culture of sportsmanship and wellness, while also ensuring the successful operation of all athletic programs at Peoria Academy.
Peoria Academy is an independent, International Baccalaureate World School serving approximately 160 students in PK-8th grades. We are implementing both the Primary Years Programme (PYP) in PK-5th grade and the Middle Years Programme (MYP) in grades 6-8. The PE teacher will be an essential member of our IB faculty, delivering engaging lessons to Pre-K to 8th grade students.
The PE teacher works in close collaboration with other faculty and is responsible for delivering a strong program of instruction that is aligned with both the PYP and MYP. In addition to teaching duties, faculty are expected to participate in the life of an independent school, exhibit a growth mindset, actively seek to collaborate, understand child development, and serve as positive ambassadors for Peoria Academy and its students.

Key Responsibilities
Physical Education Teacher
Develop and implement an engaging and developmentally appropriate physical education curriculum for students in PreK-8th grade.
Promote physical fitness, motor skill development, and overall health and wellness.
Foster an inclusive environment that encourages participation and builds self-confidence in all students.
Evaluate and track students’ progress and provide constructive feedback.
Collaborate with other faculty members to integrate physical education into the overall academic program.
Athletic Director
In partnership with the Principal, design and manage a mission-appropriate athletic program for Peoria Academy
Plan, organize, and oversee all aspects of the school’s athletic program, including team schedules, practices, and events.
Recruit, train, and supervise coaches for various sports teams.
Ensure compliance with school, state, and league policies regarding student-athlete eligibility, safety protocols, and sportsmanship. This includes maintaining IESA standards and certifications.
Coordinate communication with parents, staff, and community members regarding athletic events and updates.
Maintain orderly, clean, and safe facilities, equipment and uniforms.
Build partnerships with local sports organizations and schools to enhance the athletic program. Develop working relationships with area schools and promptly schedule all athletic games for Peoria Academy.
Promote and celebrate student-athletes' accomplishments through newsletters, assemblies, and social media.
Manage the facility rental schedule/contracts under the direction of the Director of Finance & Operations
Desired Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited college or university; graduate degree is desirable.
Previous experience as a Physical Education teacher and/or Athletic Director.
Strong leadership and organizational skills.
Ability to connect with and inspire students of all ages.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Knowledge of best practices in physical education, coaching, and athletic administration.
CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hiring).
