Responsibilities of a Lower School Homeroom Teacher include but are not limited to:
Teach, plan lessons, and foster and evaluate student growth in the core disciplines in a homeroom (K-Fifth Grade)
Implement instructional strategies and use clear and consistent classroom management in concert with the
Attend and co-lead Outdoor Education trips in fall and spring, and participate in ski days in the winter months
Guide students with organization, problem solving, and conflict resolution to support individual needs
Supervise children during break, recess, and lunchtime
Communicate professionally and effectively with parents, colleagues, and administrators; this includes both email and phone communications as well as written reporting such as report cards and classroom newsletters
Assist with fall classroom move-in and spring move-out; attend required in-service days, meetings, and training sessions
Adhere to guidelines, procedures, and policies in the Employee Handbook
Successful candidates will have:
Teaching experience (in grades K-5 preferred)
A love of elementary children and early childhood education
Professional desire to develop or continue to develop teaching skills in the academic disciplines as well as in the on-going work of social/emotional development of children
Understanding of child development and the importance of stoking curiosity in all learners
Demonstrated commitment to teaching and learning in a dynamic school community
Ability to work in a collegial and highly collaborative environment
Skill in the use of technology such as Google Workspace, student information systems, online MAP assessment
Adaptability in teaching environments -- from the traditional classroom to settings on campus, online, or outdoors
A growth mindset, sense of humor, warm personality, and excellent organizational and communication skills
Bachelor’s degree; master’s degree preferred
