Berkshire Country Day School seeks a dedicated and passionate Preschool Teacher for two and three year olds for our Brook Farm Preschool program. We seek a professional who is energetic, has a positive attitude, and is a self-starter. Working collaboratively with others in a small community and instilling confidence in the program with families is required. Candidates should be creative, flexible and culturally competent with effective organizational and classroom management skills.
Brook Farm at BCD
Brook Farm at BCD offers a preschool for children two years to four years of age that is based in the Reggio Emilia pedagogy and rooted in the natural environment that surrounds our campus. Preschool students move from home-based classroom environments to outdoor experiential learning on a daily basis. Reggio Emilia is not a method but rather a philosophical ideal and approach to teaching.
Inside and outdoors, Brook Farm Preschool offers a unique program based in a beautiful setting on the campus of BCD. Our secure and gated campus contains 26 acres of trails, fields, streams, and a pond for exploration. Every day, our Brook Farm students may play in multiple outdoor playground areas or have guided explorations of our beautiful campus.
Brook Farm Preschool teachers have an 11-month teaching schedule. Parents may choose from two calendars: 1) an approximately 11 month calendar that runs throughout the year except for the month of August when Brook Farm is closed for campus maintenance 2) an approximately 9.5 month calendar that runs parallel to the BCD calendar, which is convenient for BCD families or families who have other summer plans. Brook Farm Teachers all follow the 11 month calendar.
The ideal candidate will:
Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of child development in the early years
Motivate and stimulate children's learning abilities through a range of developmentally appropriate exploratory and inquiry-based experiences
Demonstrate best instructional practices to deliver a high-quality, developmentally appropriate curriculum to students
Cultivate and maintain a safe and inclusive classroom culture that values various perspectives
Assess and maintain written records of individual student development, which including competency checklist, narrative comments on reports and leading parent/caregiver conferences
In collaboration with other classroom faculty, develops, maintains, and revises curriculum maps in all content areas that are aligned to Brook Farm’s standards
Communicate in a timely manner with families/faculty/staff
Demonstrates flexibility and resourcefulness

Brook Farm teachers have a week-long winter break, a week-long spring break, and the month of August off, in addition to customary Federal and state holidays.

Required Qualifications
Associate's degree or Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood, Child Development or related field
Experience in a preschool classroom setting
Strong classroom management skills
Experience with Reggio Emilia pedagogy (preferred)
