Pay Range: $35 per hour. (Guaranteed pay of 4 hours for 1/2 day to a maximum of 8 hours for the full day)

Summary:
The On-Call Substitute Teacher provides instructional and classroom management support in the absence of the regular teacher for grades K-8. They will ensure continuity of learning by following pre-established lesson plans and maintaining a positive classroom environment that aligns with SF Day’s values and culture. The role requires quick adaptability, clear communication, and the ability to manage different learning environments.
Responsibilities:
Be prepared to accept assignments on short notice, often with little lead time, and be ready to work across different grade levels and subjects as needed.
Maintain a structured and respectful learning environment by managing student behavior and ensuring classroom rules are followed.
Teach lessons or facilitate learning activities as outlined in the plans, ensuring students understand key concepts.
Supervise students throughout the school day, including during recess, transitions between classes, and lunch, ensuring their safety.
Record student attendance and ensure that the classroom operates smoothly at the start of the day.
Report to the division head about the day’s progress, including any behavioral or academic concerns.
Assist students with their classwork, clarify instructions, and provide additional support for students who may need extra help.
Be flexible to changes in schedule or subject matter, sometimes stepping into various classrooms throughout the day.
Follow school policies and procedures, including safety drills and emergency responses.
Other duties as needed.
Requirements
Qualifications
A BA degree; an advanced degree is preferred.
Teaching and or Assistant Teaching experience in independent schools is preferred.
Strong organizational and communication skills.
A love for working with children or young adults, is required.
Working Conditions:
80% Indoors, 20% outdoors
Ability to move around the school and playground to attend to individual operational and other matters
Occasional requirement to lift more than 30 lbs
Sit for an extended amount of time
