Essential Duties for this position include:
Teach graduate courses related to occupation-based therapy in pediatric and/or mental health practice and systems, child development, and/or disability studies; maintain expertise in areas of teaching responsibility
Conduct and disseminate research related to children and families, child and youth mental health, disability studies, and/or developmental and intellectual disabilities, and seek external funding to support this research
Collaborate with faculty in the MSOT program to ensure full accreditation for the developing program
Work with the program director to advance program sustainability and leadership
Perform academic service appropriate for academic rank and professional or community-based service related to scholarly interests
The program was granted Candidacy status by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) in May 2024 and will submit a complete self-study in July 2025 with an on-site accreditation visit in Spring 2026. The first cohort of 24 students began the program in Fall 2024. The program is located in the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences along with programs in Communication Sciences and Disorders (BS and MS-SLP) and Athletic Training (MS) as part of the Beaver College of Health Sciences (BCHS)
BCHS academic programs are located in Boone in the Holmes Convocation Center, and the Leon Levine Hall of Health Sciences; a state-of-the-art, 203,000 square-feet facility that is the cornerstone of the Wellness District. In addition, the college supports the Blue Cross NC Institute for Health and Human Services and has collaborative partnerships with the Wake Forest School of Medicine’s Physician Assistant Program, the Appalachian Regional Health System, and numerous other health agencies. The following are required criteria for the position:
An earned terminal doctoral degree in occupational therapy or occupational science, or an entry-level degree in occupational therapy combined with a doctoral degree in a related field.
A minimum of three years of practice experience in occupational therapy focused on pediatrics and/or mental health.
Candidates who are ABD are eligible to apply. However, all requirements for the degree must be completed by the appointment date. All qualified applicants will be considered.
For appointments at the rank of Assistant Professor candidates must demonstrate the potential for effective teaching, student mentoring, and conducting research in the area of expertise. For appointments at the rank of Associate Professor or Full Professor, candidates must demonstrate a documented history of successful teaching at the graduate level in their area of expertise, experience with student mentoring, and an established program of research.
Competitive candidates will also present:
A minimum of 3 years of experience in an occupational therapy educational program including teaching and administrative roles
Clinical occupational therapy experience in pediatrics, mental health, disability studies, and/or intellectual and developmental disabilities
An established program of research focused on children and families, child and youth mental health, and/or developmental disabilities
