COLLABORATING TEACHER
Teachers at GEMS World Academy-Chicago are educational leaders who understand the importance of innovative and international focus of contemporary academic programming. The foundation for our curriculum is a blend of an international program of studies and GEMS Education's core values—Global Citizenship, The Pursuit of Excellence, Leadership through Innovation and Growing by Learning. An IB World School, GEMS uses the city of Chicago as our extended campus for our extensive field studies program. We understand the potential that technology provides, and use it as a resource in our inquiry-based model of teaching and learning.
We seek collaborating teachers who are continually growing intellectually and professionally. Our collaborating teachers support lead teachers throughout our elementary program in creating a learning community of independent learners who have the critical thinking skills, initiative, persistence and experience to thrive.
Main Responsibilities
- Work in collaboration with the lead teacher(s) to foster an environment of excellence and high standards of education so that students are encouraged in their personal, social, emotional, and academic development
- Contribute to classroom planning and instruction, including facilitating lessons for small or large groups
- Work in collaboration with the lead teacher(s) to ensure efficient daily routines and practices, including classroom organization and the implementation of curriculum and assessments
- Support the lead teacher(s) in developing excellent communication routines with parents
- Support the organization and management of the classroom environment
- Contribute to regular team meetings and faculty meetings
- Assume substitute responsibilities when lead teachers are absent
- Perform duties as assigned by the Head of School including before or after school supervision, recess and lunch duties.
Expected Qualifications
- A four-year college degree in education or a related field
- Experience working with elementary or early elementary aged children
- Knowledge and understanding of child development
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills
- Ability to work effectively in a team teaching environment, with the willingness and potential to contribute to program development
- An understanding of the importance of a partnership with families
- Familiarity with the integration of one-to-one technology throughout the curricula
- High levels of motivation and enthusiasm and a commitment to collaboration and high standards of professionalism
