Southfield School seeks an experienced professional to lead the Preschool program which serves 120+ preschool students ages 2-5. The Preschool Director reports directly to the Head of School and is responsible for the successful daily operation of a developmentally appropriate child-centered program. This is a full-time, 12-month position that will begin on July 1, 2024.
Demonstrate a deep understanding of child development.
Provide an inspiring, nurturing, and safe environment for all students, faculty, and parents.
Establish a unified workplace where colleagues are respectful, cooperative, and helpful.
Supervise the academic program of the preschool and ensure that it follows the mission and philosophy of Southfield School and research-based best practices.
Partner with other Division Directors and Administration to collaborate, plan, and coordinate the school’s overall program including enrichment schedules, emergency plans, in-service day plans, and school policies and procedures.
Observe, supervise, and evaluate the teachers, assistants, and substitutes for the division.
Work closely with the Director of Admissions to recruit, assess, and retain students who are a good match for the mission of the school.
Plan for and conduct regular faculty meetings designed to provide professional development, discuss issues at hand, and coordinate with the work in preschool and across divisions.
Supervise and participate in the daily routines of the school.
Interview candidates for instructional positions and make hiring recommendations to the Head of School.
Plan and prioritize a budget to ensure the instructional program is supported with materials and supplies consistent with the school’s mission and best practices.
Oversee state licensing requirements to ensure that all regulations are met, all files are up to date, and all corresponding policies and procedures are maintained.

Bachelor’s Degree required; Masters preferred
Experience in program development and coordination, preferably in an educational setting.
Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
Physical requirements: ability to lift up to 40 lbs., ability to move easily around campus, ability to sit, bend, kneel, stand, and walk frequently
