International School of Portland provides a warm, multicultural environment where children are fully immersed in Spanish, Japanese or Chinese from Preschool through 5th grade. We are Portland's first International Baccalaureate PYP elementary school. Our school was founded in 1990 with a current enrollment of around 400 students.
We are immediately seeking a highly motivated full time Learning Support Specialist with a strong teaching background to join our dynamic Student Support Team for the 2023-2024 school term. This position will be a member of the Administrative Team reporting to the Head of Student Support. The ideal candidate must have current or past teaching experience in working with culturally diverse students, teachers, families, and communities.

General Summary
The Learning Support Specialist is a vital member of the International School of Portland's community. This position is an educator uniquely trained in child development, learning strategies, and providing targeted academic support to students who may need improvement in academic areas of reading literacy, writing, and or mathematics. This position involves the development and implementation of student support plans, the analysis of student data, and collaboration with teachers, parents, and other educational professionals to improve student performance.
They help to create a school climate that welcomes and appreciates the strengths and gifts of culturally diverse students. Through the Primary Years Programme, the Learning Support Specialist teaches with the lens of tolerance, kindness, and patience on a regular basis. Through collaboration with all members of the community, the Learning Support Specialist ensures all students' rights are respected and all students' needs are met.
This position works with students, parents, and faculty to promote the success of all students who may need additional academic support. The Learning Support Specialist works with students, parents, and teachers to promote the success of all students by supporting access, equity and educational justice. They continually work to develop their own cultural competence and facilitate the development of the cultural awareness, knowledge, and skills of all school personnel. Compensation and Benefits
Salaried, $58,000-$66,000 depending on experience and education
