DESCRIPTION
Under the supervision of the ECEC Education and Operations Manager, receive work direction from Lead Teachers (CDC Teacher II) in the planning and implementation of daily curriculum of all aspects of a quality program for children aged three months to five years. Work closely with Lead Teacher to maintain program quality, adhering to State Licensing regulations title 22, developmental profiles for all children and the National Association for the Education of Young Children Accreditation Standards. Plan, prepare and implement age appropriate activities in daily curriculum areas such as: language, art, dramatic play, multicultural and social justice awareness, manipulative toys, arts and crafts, block play, problem solving, science, nutrition and outdoor play. Observe, document using narrative approach of Learning Stories, analyze, and link to assessment measures each child's overall growth and development using the Early Years Learning Framework or equivalent assessment tool. Constantly monitor safety factors and required adult-child ratios. Create and maintain a warm and positive classroom environment which is inclusive and promotes mutual respect. Acknowledge and respect the integrity of each child and encourage the development of positive self-image to allow the child to comfortably and successfully explore and learn.
Assist children with hygiene (washing, diapering, toileting); monitor health needs of children and assist with meal/snack service. Monitor adult and child working areas to ensure they are safe, sanitary and orderly. Maintain best practices to ensure visual observation of children at all times to prevent children from being left unsupervised or from leaving the center. Follow established health & safety procedures for handling emergencies as identified in the ECEC Handbook. Interact with parents daily; give brief reports of child's experience in pertinent areas. Under direction of or in absence of Lead Teacher, schedule and conduct regular parent-Teacher conferences to maintain open communication and rapport with parents. Assist the Lead Teacher in documenting child attendance records, correspondence, child observation notes, lesson plans, accident reports and assessments.
QUALIFICATIONS
Must hold Child Development Associate Teacher Permit or above from the State of California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
Experience in planning and implementation of curriculum for children aged three months to five years.
Knowledge of and experience working within federal and state health safety regulations applicable to a child development facility.
Knowledge of and demonstrated experience using various emergency response procedures. Ability to act quickly, calmly and appropriately in hazardous situations.
Experience using developmental assessment tools to prepare written assessments of children's growth and development.
Proven experience creating successful partnerships with parents, children, teachers and community representatives in providing a quality development and education program.
Ability to understand and incorporate Child Development theory and best practices in early Childhood group care education settings.
Ability to coordinate the program for one group of children and their parents.
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with and be sensitive to a culturally diverse community.
Ability to speak, read and write English to be understood by young children and to prepare lesson plans, reports, evaluations and general correspondence.
Ability to remain focused, organized and self-paced.
Ability to work with a variety of age-groups and flexibility to rotate through different classrooms as needed.
Must satisfy the requirement for a "Fully Qualified Teacher" within the applicable infant and/or preschool child category as defined by the Department of Social Service in Title 22.
