DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION INCLUDE:
Under the direction of the Dean of the Social Sciences and Humanities Division, the instructor will Primary have the responsibility to teach a variety of college-level courses that fulfill either general education requirements, count towards the Associate of Arts degree in Child Development or AD-T in Early Childhood Education, certificate programs and California Child Development Permit. Provide classroom instruction in accordance with established course outlines.
Assist with developing and maintaining the department's equity plan and socially just practices. Help the college meet its commitment to global, cultural, social and environmental awareness through the praxis of equity, social justice and multicultural education. Commit to professional development and practice of cultural humility. Commit to support the college's institutional core competencies, in particular, civic capacity for global, cultural, social and environmental justice.
Standard duties expected of all faculty include development and evaluation of curricula, maintaining scheduled office hours, attending department and division meetings, pursuing professional growth activities, service on district and/or college committees, and performing other duties consistent with the role of an instructor. Instructors also have the opportunity to participate in campus extra-curricular activities, shared governance, or any program/departmental leadership role.
Understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty and staff.
Master's in child development, early childhood education, human development, home economics/family and consumer studies with a specialization in child development/early childhood education, or educational psychology with a specialization in child development/early childhood education OR Bachelor's in any of the above AND Master's in social work, educational supervision, elementary education, special education, psychology, bilingual/bicultural education, life management/home economics, family life studies, or family and consumer studies OR the equivalent.
Graduate degree(s) in early childhood education, child development, child and family studies or a related discipline
Experience teaching Child Development and Education using inclusive pedagogies and course content at the post- secondary level to students of ethnically, economically, and culturally diverse backgrounds.
Experience in teaching in an Early Childhood setting (children ages 0-8) in order to teach practicum/pedagogy courses.
Knowledge, ability, and experience to teach any of the Department's Child Development lower-division courses including, but not limited to: School Age Child, Infant/Toddler Development, Atypical Infant Development, Affirming Diversity in Education, Child Growth and Development, Observation, Curriculum for the Preschool Classroom, Language Development, Child Family and Community, Guidance and Positive Discipline, Self-Assessment, Student Teaching Practicum, Children With Special Needs, Administration and Supervision.
Knowledge of the California Early Childhood Educator Competencies and the National Association for the Education of Young Children Higher Education accreditation standards, and commitment to the department's A.A. degree accreditation.
Experience integrating technology in the classroom and/or online teaching: (e.g. CANVAS, Zoom Learning Platform, etc)

HIRING RANGE: $71,934.90 - $133,543.60 annually plus benefits; actual placement is based on applicant's verified education and experience.
