Description: The Baylor University Department of Human Sciences and Design invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant/Associate level in Textiles and Product Development.
The position focuses on teaching and establishing research and scholarship in applied textiles and apparel technologies in a cross-disciplinary environment. Successful candidates will exhibit a strong commitment to scholarship, research, and teaching and demonstrate an active faith. The anticipated date of appointment is August 2024.

Qualifications: Candidates for the position must have earned a terminal degree in Textiles, Apparel Design or Product Development with a strong textiles foundation, or a related field, by the time of their appointment. (ABD candidates with planned completion dates before the start of the position may be considered). Candidates must have a defined research agenda or creative scholarship focus evident through diverse indicators including obtaining funding, publishing in peer-reviewed journals, or exhibiting in juried competetions, and have demonstrated evidence of successful undergraduate teaching. The following are desirable qualifications for the position: peer-reviewed publications and grant funding experience.

Apparel Program Information: The apparel program at Baylor University, with approximately 170 students, is nationally recognized and ranked among the nation's top fashion design and merchandising programs, according to http://www.fashion-school.org/. Program strengths include opportunities for experiential learning, faculty/student interaction, civic engagement, and integration of the Christian perspective. With an emphasis on maintaining the latest design technology, the Parker Apparel Technology Center supports apparel design and merchandising majors. Other facilities for apparel students include two design studios, a body scanner lab, well-equipped textile testing laboratories, a wearable technology lab, and collaborative access across campus to physiological monitoring equipment.
Robbins College of Health and Human Sciences: The Human Sciences and Design Department in the Robbins College of Health and Human Sciences (http://www.baylor.edu/chhs/) has 500 undergraduate students with 22 full-time faculty, 30 part-time/adjunct faculty members, and four full-time support staff. The department has four divisions: Apparel Studies, Child and Family Studies, Interior Design, and Nutrition Sciences. The Piper Center for Family Studies and Child Development is an arm of the Child and Family Studies program and employs a director, assistant director, and 12 teachers.
