Baker Demonstration School, an independent progressive PK-8 school on Chicago’s North Shore, is seeking

an exemplary Associate Teacher for the Student Services Team. We value candidates who are passionate

about progressive models of learning, have an interest in child development and are innovative and eager in

supporting the whole child. We place a high value on community and seek candidates who have excellent

interpersonal skills and who will work well with students, colleagues, and parents. Equally important is a

demonstrated commitment to developing culturally competent practices consistent with our values of

The part-time position includes, but is not limited to:

Responsibilities

• Support Middle School students with academics, both within the classroom and in a small group
• Assist with implementing behavior plans
• Provide executive functioning support
• Assist with progress monitoring and/or assessments throughout the school year
• Provide 1:1 or group social/emotional support as directed by the Social Worker
• Collaborate with the Student Services Team and teachers on data collection
• Assist with managing crises with the guidance of the Student Services Team and Leadership Team
• Actively engage in school community duties, including recess/carpool/lunch supervision
• Participate in professional development and meetings for Associate Teachers
• Timely follow-up with clerical duties such as keeping classroom notes and organizing student files

Requirements

• College degree or enrollment in a college program
• Experience working with students with learning differences
• Energy and the desire to learn and explore with teachers and students
• Interest in progressive education philosophy and pedagogy
• Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion and diversity
• Willingness to contribute positively to the school community and to develop healthy, constructive relationships with students and families
• Dependable and highly organized with attention to detail
• Excellent communication skills (verbal and written); Writing sample required
