The Third Grade teacher is a member of the school’s Lower Division and reports to the Head of the Lower Division. This full-time position comes with the responsibility of working with faculty and staff to teach Third Grade in support of the school’s mission and curricular goals. The ideal candidate will bring a history of collaborative, self-directed work as well as a good sense of humor. The ideal candidate will also have at least three years of teaching experience, and draw upon that understanding to inspire members of the Park community.
In addition to outstanding teaching ability, the position requires expertise with the social and emotional needs of this age group and the ability to balance the encouragement of intellectual growth with creating a learning environment that supports the needs of a range of learning styles.
Roles & Responsibilities
Design, plan, and implement learning experiences for reading, writing, math, and social studies
Establish and maintain a healthy and trusting learning environment, fostering nurturing relationships with students
Meaningfully integrate technologies into class lessons, for online learning as well as in school learning
Guide students in their social-emotional development, maintaining expectations and support for positive and productive student behavior
Collaborate with the Director of Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion to keep multiculturalism and diversity as a priority of curricular work and curriculum development
Regularly communicate with families about classroom happenings and student progress
Update documentation of current curriculum, instruction, and assessment
Maintain records of individual student progress and achievement
Participate fully in ongoing professional development
Participate in and contribute to an adult learning community by engaging in meetings, discussions, committees, task forces, and professional development.
Complete administrative tasks and coverage duties as assigned (student supervision, attendance, reporting, documenting curriculum, etc.)
Utilize feedback and reflection to improve practice and performance
Ensure that respect for diversity, equity, and inclusion, social emotional learning, and academic excellence are emphasized as core values of the School
Participate in school community activities
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Elementary Education preferred
Minimum of 3 years of teaching experience at the elementary level
Excellent knowledge of child development, latest education theories and practices, and current trends in education and professional development
Strong interpersonal skills with students, colleagues, and other adults
Strong communication skills, including experience in writing student comments and other school-related documents
Skill in differentiating instruction
Demonstrated experience working in a culturally diverse community
