The Early Childhood Demonstration Center is a NAEYC-accredited early learning center serving children ages 3-6. Through hands-on, play-based learning and emergent projects, the ECDC provides children of the Rowan and surrounding communities a unique opportunity to grow and thrive on a college campus. The preschool partners with academic programs throughout the University to provide specialized learning experiences for children as well as experiential learning for university students. The ECDC is housed within the College of Education at Rowan University. Reporting to the ECDC Director, the Head Teacher will focus primarily on the coordination and facilitation of learning experiences for a mixed-age group of children ages 3-5. The Head Teacher will have knowledge of child development, developmentally appropriate practices for young children, as well as knowledge of state guidelines for child care centers.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
Prepare and implement learning experiences on a weekly basis using integrated units of study which support state and national early learning standards.
Create a classroom environment which supports a constructivist approach.
Learn and implement new approaches in the classroom.
Establish a classroom environment free of bias which values diversity, inclusion, tolerance, and acceptance.
Document child progress in daily observations, anecdotal records, child folios.
Lead parent involvement activities and parent conferences.
Participate in professional development and staff meetings.
Communicate and work cooperatively with diverse instructional support staff, families, teacher candidates, and university faculty..
Promote positive behaviors among children utilizing proactive and positive approaches to classroom management.
Continually update knowledge of and implement indicators of program quality.
Collect records pertaining to the classroom, including daily attendance.
Maintain a professional atmosphere in the classroom and the school community.
Assist the Director in implementing standards of GROW NJ KIDS and NAEYC.
Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications:
Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning P-3 Teaching Certificate.
One (1) year of teaching experience in a school, preschool or daycare for young children.
Experience with the Project, Bank Street and/or Reggio Emilia Approaches.
Knowledge of early education in NJ, educational standards, and accreditation.
Understands and values racial equity as an organizational operating principle and is committed to continued learning on issues related to race, equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Proven problem-solving, decision-making, and program coordination skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent organizational skills and detail-oriented.
Ability to multitask effectively and efficiently.
