We are seeking a high-achieving researcher with a strong background in food science to join our lab as a Postdoctoral Research Associate. The successful candidate is expected to conduct research, develop grant proposals, publish papers, mentor students and manage the laboratory under the direct supervision of the advisor.

Our four academic departments are the Department of Agribusiness, Applied Economics and Agriscience Education; the Department of Animal Sciences; the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences; and the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Design. Within these departments, students will find a myriad of opportunities for classroom learning, research, and field work. Through our Agricultural Research Program and our Cooperative Extension Program, we are able to research issues of importance to North Carolina and provide research-based outreach training to citizens across the state and around the world.
The Department of Family and Consumer Sciences is one of four academic departments within the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences and is accredited by the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (AAFCS). The department offers Bachelor of Science degrees in three program areas with the following six distinct specialty emphases: child development and family relations (non-licensure), child development, early education and family studies (birth-kindergarten licensure), consumer sciences, fashion merchandising and design, food and nutritional sciences (nutrition and pre-medicine in nutrition), and food and nutritional sciences (food science). Additionally, the department offers a Master of Science degree in food and nutritional sciences, an online Master of Arts in Teaching in family and consumer sciences education, a Master of Arts in Teaching in child development, early education and family studies (birth-kindergarten licensure), an online Advanced Certificate in family and consumer sciences and an online certificate in family financial planning. Faculty members are actively engaged in research that contributes to the body of knowledge in the areas of nutrition, food science, housing, apparel, textiles, child development, and family issues.

Requirements:
Ph.D. in Food Science or a related field awarded within the last five years, specializing in plant-based foods, and/or meat-based food product development.
A strong experimental and theoretical background with evidence in the area of oleogels, bigels, hydrogels, and emugels.
Analytical chemistry skills for characterization of the food samples.
Knowledge of statistical methods and statistical software.
Proficiency in MS Office 365.
Strong written and oral English communication skills with the ability to develop manuscripts and assist in the preparation of grant proposals and presentations.
Preferred:
Procurement and management of laboratory supplies as well as shared responsibility for OSHA and safety regulation compliance.
Valid NC Driver's License or the ability to obtain one within 60 days of hire.
The capability of lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling objects up to 25lbs
Handling chemical waste and understanding a chemical Safety Data Sheet (SDS)
Flexibility in working with all types of chemicals and materials – hazardous/non-hazardous, organic, and inorganic.
