The Montgomery Academy has long considered its choral music program to be a signature program of the school. In this position, we are seeking to continue the tradition of choral excellence with an individual to serve as director of Middle School and Upper School Choruses and to teach general music.
At the Middle School level, there are two choral ensembles (a 5th/6th grade treble chorus and a 7th/8th grade chorus), that performs for student assemblies and sings in two major public concerts each school year. Students also participate in the All-State Choral Festival and Choral Performance Assessments.
The Upper School Chorus is open to students in grades 9-12. The chorus performs a wide variety of repertoire from renaissance to contemporary and has consistently received "Superior" ratings at District, State and National Festivals. In recent years, they have had successful tours in 15 states and have performed by juried invitation for Regional and National conferences of the American Choral Directors Association and the National Association of Music Education.
Along with chorus, students in the Upper School can also enroll in music theory (including AP music theory). Through the music curriculum, serious students of music can attain the theory background needed to pursue continued academic study of music at the collegiate level. Many graduates of the Academy's music program have gone on to either study music or participate in various choirs, glee clubs and ensembles at the college level.
