The Speyer Legacy School seeks a dynamic, innovative, and passionate full-time Lower School K-4 science teacher as a leave replacement beginning August 2023 through November 2023. The candidate will report to the Head of Lower School. They will be responsible for collaborating with faculty and staff to teach K-4 science in support of the school’s mission and curricular goals. The ideal candidate possesses creative problem-solving skills, a sense of humor, enthusiasm for designing innovative curriculum, and strong interpersonal skills that allow one to cooperate and collaborate effectively with others.

Plants and plant parts
Seed dispersal
2nd Grade
The scientific method
3rd Grade
Measurement using the metric system
Food chains and food webs
4th Grade
Powers of ten and relative sizes of things scientists study
Basic chemistry and the periodic table of elements
Duties & Responsibilities
Plan and implement academically rigorous, inquiry-based science units and lessons which reflect knowledge of curriculum development, students’ interests and abilities, students’ social and emotional needs, and gifted education.
Establish and implement classroom procedures and routines, building class community.
Assess students' performance, including academic, behavioral, and social-emotional.
Prepare student reports which include narrative descriptions of students' profiles, interests, areas of growth and needs.
Communicate regularly with families about classroom happenings and student progress.
Regularly demonstrate a passion for lifelong learning for both students and colleagues.
Actively pursue professional development rooted in individual and schoolwide goals.
Support community and individual social-emotional learning through everyday life in the classroom.
Demonstrate a desire to integrate technology meaningfully into the classroom.
Collaborate with colleagues, across and within disciplines and divisions, to further develop curriculum and design interdisciplinary projects/units of study.
Participate in the school community, including faculty and committee work, and school duties.
Promote respect for diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging as core values of the School, a shared responsibility in partnership with the school community.
Engage respectfully with families and demonstrate sensitivity to cultures, values, configurations, and beliefs.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Knowledge of child development, best practices, and current trends in science education and gifted education.
Demonstrated classroom management skills, including allocating time, space, and materials for most effective learning.
Experience in differentiated instruction.
Creativity and innovation in both curriculum and instruction.
Versatility and flexibility both within and outside of the classroom, encouraging students to think creatively, work collaboratively, embrace failure, and communicate effectively with others.
Outstanding interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
Skill in creating a learning environment that is challenging, motivating, and developmentally appropriate.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Science Education.
Master’s degree and experience in gifted education preferred.
Salary
Leave replacements are paid a per diem rate of $225.
