The Philadelphia School (TPS) is seeking an Athletic Director for the 2023-2024 academic year. We are a Preschool - 8 progressive, independent school located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with an enrollment of 410 students. Position Summary:
We seek to hire a Middle School Athletic Director who will be responsible for facilitating the middle school athletics program. We are seeking an experienced, responsive educator who has strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills. We expect all of our teachers to build respectful and supportive relationships with their students, develop strong home-school partnerships with parents, and to participate in school wide initiatives. A demonstrated commitment to engaging in active work supporting diversity and social justice is essential.
This is a part-time position with administrative and game-day responsibilities. The Director must be present on campus during practices and games, generally from 3-6pm, excluding Wednesdays.
Responsibilities include:
Creating a balanced, appropriately competitive schedule for all middle school athletic teams
Communicating with a wide range of stakeholders including: families, faculty, communications department, coaches, referees, and participating schools and organizations.
Ordering necessary equipment and uniforms to ensure sufficient and inclusive inventory
Support in planning special events such as: end of Season celebrations, Faculty vs. 8th grade games, and various basketball tournaments
Maintaining community partnerships
Managing updates to athletics handbook, protocols, data and record keeping
Recruiting and retaining high quality coaches
Managing and tracking Athletics department budget throughout the school year
Qualifications:
B.A. or equivalent required; Master’s Degree in a related field of study preferred
2+ years middle school teaching experience; Coaching experience in at least two different sports at the middle school or high school level
An orientation to progressive philosophy and teaching methods
Strong understanding of child development, including the social, emotional, and intellectual domains of middle schoolers
Strong writing and communication skills
Demonstrated commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Justice as integral to the curriculum and community experience
Passion for instilling in children a lifelong love of learning
