The Yale Child Study Center has an opening for full-time pediatric psychologist dedicated to providing integrated behavioral care to children, teens, and families in the New Haven Primary Care Consortium. This clinical ladder track faculty position will be at the level of Assistant Professor. Our embedded pediatric psychologist will work collaboratively with primary care providers, clinical behavioral health specialists, care coordinators, and allied professionals to provide holistic comprehensive care.
The pediatric psychologist will participate in developing a co-precepting model of integrated care with the pediatric faculty members and provide support to primary care providers on how to approach basic behavioral health issues, such as providing resources and support regarding managing behavioral aspects of chronic illness. The pediatric psychologist will serve as a consultant on the multidisciplinary teams of physicians, nurses, and allied health staff. Medical education is a critical part of this role, providing residents and fellows teaching around issues of attachment and parenting, adjustment to illness, nonpharmacological pain management, etc.
Typical questions for the pediatric psychologist may also involve brief diagnostic evaluation and intervention for behavioral health concerns as they relate to chronic illness, adherence to medication plans, plans for enuresis or encopresis, and addressing parental accommodation of illness. Psychoeducation about child development and child mental health may also be provided as part of teaching, consultation, or clinical contact.
The pediatric psychologist's role includes providing brief interventions for the behavioral health management of illness. This work may involve single session interventions during or following pediatric visits or referral to services conducted by clinical behavioral health specialists within the PCC for brief treatment and/or the care management team for referral to community providers outside the PCC for more extensive ongoing treatment and services.
