***THIS IS AN AFSCME TECHNICAL BARGAINING UNIT POSITION*** Job opening date 3/7/23. AFSCME Technical employees must be submitted by 3/14/23 in order to be eligible for priority consideration. Position will remain open until filled.
This is an hourly position, and your work schedule will be varable, intermittent, or on call. Starting wage $20/hour.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to repeatedly perform each of the following:
1) Physically supervise young children, protecting and preventing harm to them,
2) Immediately respond to emergency situations,
3) Visually and aurally observe children in their environment,
4) Communicate with children and their parents/guardians,
5) Move quickly,
6) Move between floor and small chairs,
7) Bend, stoop, stand, reach, squat, sit (on floor and/or child size chairs),
8) Carry and lift children weighing between 30-50 pounds,
9) Push 4-6 seat strollers while walking with children.
Model positive problem solving and respectful behavior. Must not present a risk of transmission of reportable communicable diseases as verified by health care provider.
DUTIES
1) Assist teacher in implementation of program plan to advance the physical, social, emotional, and intellectual competence of the children.
This includes:
--Providing environment of acceptance in which children can grow toward a sense of positive identity.
--Accurately observing, recording, and reporting individual and group behaviors.
--Planning and carrying out daily activities for a group of children.
--Care and supervision of children in the classroom.
--Preparation of educational materials required to implement the daily program.
--Provide sanitary and social meal/snack times.
2) Participate in establishing and maintaining an attractive, safe, healthy learning environment.
3) Direct part-time student staff and substitute staff in the care of children and provision of activities.
4) Participate in staff development opportunities.
5) Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
***Current UMD students ineligible to apply.***
--A combination of education, work/intern experience that meets State of MN Human Services Licensing Act, Rule 3 (9503.0033) requirements for child care centers. For example, a high school diploma/GED, 24 quarter credit hours and 4,160 hours directly related work experience. --A background study and reference verification that meets requirements of State of MN State Human Services Licensing Act, Rule 11
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: --A combination of university education and related work experience totaling 6 years, OR certificate/credential for 2-year program in child development or early childhood education at a MN community college or technical center, OR license from the Minnesota Department of Education for Prekindergarten Associate. --Strong leadership, interpersonal and organizational skills --Experience working with children and families from diverse backgrounds. --Knowledge of and/or experience with university infrastructure. --Ability to interface and collaborate with the campus community. --Ability to model positive problem solving and respectful behavior. --One year or more of formal experience working with children (birth to age 5) in a full-day child care program.
