Human Resources Partner, Academic Programs
Job Summary:
Reporting to the Executive Director for Human Resources and working in close collaboration with the Provost and her staff, the HR Partner for Academic Programs provides strategic human resources support for faculty, department chairs, staff and senior management of the College. Functions as HR Partner for all academic units including the Library, the Academic Centers in the Milstein Center (Media, Athena, Movement, BCRW, Digital Humanities, Design, CSC, CEP, ERC) and the Center for Toddler Development, the Provost Office and the Office of Institutional Research and Assessment.
Job Description:
Duties & Responsibilities:
Working closely with the Provost's Office, provide human resources support and strategic partnership to department chairs, faculty, managers and employees, including:
1. Administer human resources policies and procedures for full- and part-time faculty and staff.
2. In consultation with department heads and faculty chairs, assist in recruitment efforts for permanent and temporary positions.
3. Provide assistance to the Provost's Office as needed to coordinate the hiring and onboarding needs of incoming faculty and work with faculty department chairs to assure that the needs of new faculty members are coordinated appropriately.
4. Work closely with BLAIS leadership to evaluate needs and advise on strategy regarding hiring, staffing, employee relations, and planning.
5. Assist with coordination of the logistics of the Post Baccalaureate Program including reviewing position descriptions, communicating program expectations, and tracking assignments in consultation with the Provost, Beyond Barnard, and OGC.
6. Handle employee relations counseling, outplacement counseling, and exit process.
7. Work closely with managers and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention.
8. Collaborate with departments on succession planning, leadership and professional development for staff.
9. Provide day-to-day performance management guidance to managers, including coaching, counseling, career development, and disciplinary actions.
10. Provide HR policy guidance and interpretation. Assist in development and implementation of human resources policies and procedure
11. Conduct effective, thorough and objective investigations.
12. Provide training (including orientation sessions) to new and current employees to assure consistent application of policies and procedures and to communicate general benefits information.
13. Perform special projects and other related duties as assigned by the ED for Human Resources

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
1. Excellent interpersonal and critical thinking skills; ability to manage multiple priorities and administer a broad range of tasks including resolving complaints, coaching and counseling managers and employees on policies and procedures.
2. Ability to make recommendations regarding resolution of employee related concerns or issues, by using sound judgment that is consistent with standards, practices, policies, procedures, regulation or government law.
3.Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to relay complex information in a manner understandable to a wide variety of constituencies.
4.Demonstrated skill in traditional and interest-based negotiations ; ability to objectively coach employees and management through complex and difficult issues
5.Strong organizational skills; evidence of self-motivation; demonstrated ability to plan, schedule and work both independently and in teams
6.High degree of professionalism and discretion in contacts with management and team members.
7. Knowledge of principles and practices of human resources administration
8. Excellent computing skills, including experience with a comprehensive HRIS system (Workday preferred) as well as the Google and Microsoft Office suite of products.
