At Stony Brook Medicine, a Child Life Specialist is a valuable member of our team, who provides quality child life services to children and families in assigned work area(s) throughout Stony Brook Children's Hospital and who provides clinical services to our patient population.
Qualified candidates will demonstrate superior patient care and possess outstanding communication skills while adhering to our high standard of excellence.
Duties of a Child Life Specialist may include the following but are not limited to:
Assist children in the development of coping skills though play, recreation and art.
Collaborate with child life staff in development and implementation of new and effective programming.
Work in conjunction with health care team members to identify current patient needs and develop care plan goals.
Assist child life team in supervision of volunteers and facilitation of daily playroom activities.
Conduct in-services and training to hospital staff, students, and volunteers.
Cross-train in all units covered by child life specialists.
Bachelor's degree in Child Life, Child Development, or related field.
Completion of Child Life Council Accredited 480 hour internship in Child Life.
Certified by the Child Life Certifying Committee.
Ability to work flexible schedules including evening, weekends, and holidays.
Minimum three years employment as Child Life Specialist.
Master's degree in Child Life, Child Development or related field.

In accordance with the New York State Department of Health (DOH) regulation that all hospitals and nursing homes "continuously require all personnel to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19," Candidates who are not already partially vaccinated must obtain the first dose of the vaccine within three (3) calendar days of acceptance of conditional job offer and must obtain any subsequent doses in accordance with the vaccine protocol, including booster vaccines.
